Job Purpose The Analytical Scientist II will provide fundamental analytical science management and applied analytical science expertise to R&D (Research and Development). Also, the role is responsible for driving strategy to develop methods/capabilities that will support the direction of the business, will deliver a variety of analytical processes, techniques and evaluations in order to support tobacco, smoke, and nicotine product assessment. Principal Accountabilities * Manage delivery and implementation of strategy to provide BAT with the analytical tools for the future * Provide analytical science management in scoping and technical discussions with project stakeholders, giving appropriate scientific guidance and evaluating short to medium term capability requirements * Support the training and technical/professional development of scientific staff to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and practical capability to deliver to the required standard and to continue in their development * Provide scientific supervision to technical specialists and technicians in the conduct of their work, including review of study plans, data and reports * Review technical resources and capability, identify potential limitations of capability, and propose technical solutions, including new and replacement equipment, instruments, and technical processes * Coordinate technical specialists in the identification, analysis, and resolution of scientific problems, and monitor the scientific integrity of studies and projects, keeping stakeholders and management informed * Manage the structured evaluation of technologies to support proposals for capability development in own and other areas of technical specialism, including preparation of business case and coordination with other R&D functions (e.g. Commercial Manager) * Analyze technical capability and identify opportunities for improvement * Interpret output of stakeholder engagement, make technical recommendations, and evaluate implementation * Explore cutting edge technologies and investigate and recommend opportunities to apply these to R&D challenges and future capability builds Knowledge, Skills and Experience * Professional or academic achievement in Chemistry or a related physical science at master's level or above. * Good understanding of preparative and instrumental techniques applicable to the isolation and measurement of the physical properties or trace level analytes in complex matrices * Relevant technical experience resulting in knowledge and application of best technical practice, analytical method development, and validation using complex instrumental analysis techniques (including GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, HPLC/MS, HPLC/MS/MS) with associated high-level problem-solving skills * Evidence of maintenance of current technical awareness, and knowledge of all relevant aspects of emerging analytical science and techniques. * Experience of working in an ISO accredited and/or GLP compliant laboratory Benefits * Base salary from 45,600 to 57,000 per year, depending of relevant experience * Bonus target up to 30% of annual base salary * 25 days annual leave * Participation in Discretionary Company Bonus Scheme * Participation in Company Share Reward Scheme * Company Pension Scheme * Private Healthcare Cover * Eligibility for Company Flexible Benefits Scheme.
