Job purpose The successful applicant will provide hands-on Analytical Chemistry support for research into alternative (non-nicotine) active substances in novel consumer products. This will include working as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and apply new analytical methods with which to answer research questions. Good analytical knowledge is required for a range of active substances found in consumer products, for example caffeine, theanine, taurine. Principal accountabilities * Apply technical knowledge as part of R&D project team in support of internal and external reporting and project decision making * Lead interactions with peers in identification of analytical requirements at project level, developing joint solutions with R&D peers and keeping stakeholders informed of progress thorough formal and informal communication * Support the development of novel analytical technologies and approaches as part of an internal ADC project team * Provides information into forecast, plan & track of revenue and capex * Provides appropriate leadership to project teams on analytical science and provides coaching to external peers on analytical data to ensure that all scientists within ADC always deliver scientific output of appropriate integrity * Participant in reports and other publications, named author on collaborative * Analyses technical capability and identifies opportunities to improve / enhance, including external scientific engagement opportunities. * Interprets output of stakeholder engagement, makes technical recommendations and evaluates implementation. * Explores cutting edge technologies and investigates and recommends opportunities to apply these to research and development challenges Knowledge, skills and experience * Professional/ academic achievement in Chemistry or a related physical science up to 1st degree level or equivalent * Active membership of the RSC at MSRC level and evidence of pro-active continuing professional development * Good analytical knowledge is required for a range of active substances found in consumer products, for example caffeine, theanine, taurine * Demonstrable competency in the chemical analysis of natural extracts and related products is a primary requirement and experience of working in an ISO 17025 accredited and/or GLP compliant environment is highly desirable * Skilled use and understanding of preparative and instrumental techniques applicable to the isolation and measurement of the physical properties of, or trace level analytes in complex matrices * Relevant technical experience resulting in thorough knowledge and application of best analytical method development and validation using complex instrumental analysis techniques (e.g. GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, HPLC/MS, HPLC/MS/MS, ICP/MS) with associated high-level problem-solving skills * Experience of project management system i.e. PRINCE2 * Ability to influence and communicate across the team and within the R&D * Creative, flexible, receptive to change, focused and able to deliver Benefits * Base salary from 35,200 to 44,000 per year, depending of relevant experience * Bonus target up to 25% of annual base salary * 25 days annual leave * Participation in Discretionary Company Bonus Scheme * Participation in Company Share Reward Scheme * Company Pension Scheme * Private Healthcare Cover * Eligibility for Company Flexible Benefits Scheme.
