Join us as an Electrical Technical Lead responsible for providing EDF UK with the technical knowledge and expertise required to support new nuclear build projects, operating stations and decommissioning sites. PWR Technology will initially focus on providing this support to Hinkley Point C (HPC), with an increasing role in supporting Sizewell C (SZC). PWR Technology will enact the client's duties to specify, manage, oversee, review and accept the design. Day to Day: * Ensuring that the requirements relating to nuclear safety for Systems Structures and Components (SSCs) are defined and adequately addressed within the design. * Providing nuclear safety acceptance of the design, based on a graded approach, by scrutinising design deliverables and modifications, according to their nuclear safety significance. * Ensuring design deliverables have the appropriate clarity in terms of golden thread to support the safety case. * Ensuring that UK context, project and UK regulation requirements for the design are met. * Undertaking the Intelligent Customer responsibilities associated with the specification, monitoring and acceptance of design work performed by contractors. * Ensuring design integrity is intact throughout the procurement, manufacture, construction, and commissioning cycle; from design to as-built operating plant. * Providing "client accepted" engineering design deliverables/design packages to the programme teams, in preparation for site construction. * Supporting the programmes and Responsible Designer resolve technical issues and manage technical risk. We're offering an opportunity to be part of the IEG IED Team in the Electrical Branch of the PWR Technology function within EDF UK's Technical Client Organisation (TCO). The Electrical Branch is divided in two teams to deliver PWR Technology objectives for the following scope: * IEG IED Team - dedicated to cable design and routing, cable containment design, earthing, lightning protection, marshalling, cabinets and boxes, small power and lighting systems, and the layout and installation of all electrical equipment (including that listed below). * Equipment Team - dedicated to the Electrical Equipment scope of supply that includes switchgear, transformers, batteries, chargers, UPS, Field Instrumentation, Diesel Generators associated electrical protection, synchronising and interlocking schemes of the Electrical Distribution System of HPC. The Skills Essential * Knowledge and experience of electrical equipment specification, procurement, qualification, testing and installation. * Knowledge and understanding of design processes and activities. * Working knowledge of relevant national and international electricals codes and standards. * Working knowledge and understanding of safety cases. * Understanding of the concept of a "nuclear safety culture". * Excellent technical writing and communication skills. Desirable * Experience in nuclear or high hazard industries. * Experience in nuclear new build. * Knowledge of nuclear power station design, particularly related to electrical engineering. * Experience of interactings with regulatory bodies, such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR). * Familiarity with Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and ONR Safety Assessment Principles relevant to design and electrical engineering. * Familiarity with international guidance related to electrical systems in nuclear power plants. Qualifications * HNC, HND or Degree in an electrical engineering discipline supplemented by relevant industrial experience as appropriate. * Hold, or working towards, a professional accreditation (e.g. CEng or IEng).
