Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the pharmacy clinical trials team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust at a time of innovation and service development. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council to join our existing Pharmacy Clinical Trials team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and have the ability to work flexibly in order to adapt to changing priorities and demands of the service. You will be able to work autonomously and as an effective team member, be methodical, have good problem solving abilities and have great attention to detail. We are at the forefront of clinical research at national and international level. Participation in clinical research demonstrates the Trust's commitment to improving the quality of care we offer and to making our contribution to wider health improvement. The Trust has recently been selected to host a NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre, one of five new sites selected across England. The centres will provide dedicated space, purpose-designed facilities and medical expertise to deliver clinical research within NHS hospital sites, with the aim of increasing the number of studies being run across England. The initiative will increase the NHS's capacity to deliver vital research for patients, while decreasing the time it takes to set-up late-phase commercial trials within the NHS - improving the UK's competitiveness in the global market and providing opportunities for patients to benefit from early access to innovation. The Trust is situated in Exeter, surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside and Dartmoor. We employ around 8,000 staff serving a core population of more than 460,000 people in Exeter, East Devon and Mid-Devon. We admit more than 120,000 patients and hold 450,000 outpatient clinics every year, spending nearly 500 million a year on delivering high quality acute and community-based healthcare. Our pharmacy clinical trials team covers activity across all specialities including oncology and haematology and also the NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility. The team comprises of the chief technician clinical trials, 2 senior clinical trials technicians, a senior assistant technical officer, a rotational pharmacist and lead clinical trials pharmacist. We are committed to providing and supporting education and personal development opportunities for this post to include supporting the successful candidate in obtaining the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification if not already held. Key responsibilities include: Ensuring that clinical trials run smoothly to include; dispensing and final checking clinical trial prescriptions, ensuring accurate stock control, storage, record keeping and drug accountability is maintained. To participate in site selection and site initiation visits, to lead on the smooth set-up, delivery and close-down of all research projects in the Trust to maintain our excellent reputation within the research community. To organise and conduct site monitoring visits by sponsors' representatives, including for Trust-sponsored studies Liaison and collaboration with the Aseptic Services Unit (ASU) as required to include allocation and delivery of trial specific products to ASU.
