The Catapult is an independent, not-for-profit centre of excellence that bridges the gap between industry, government, academia and research. We take a whole-systems view of the energy sector, helping us to identify and address innovation priorities and market barriers, in order to decarbonise the energy system at the lowest cost. Our mission to drive innovation across the Energy Sector, in partnership with research, industrial and commercial partners remains central to ensuring the UK meets its 2050 emission reduction targets whilst maximising UK prosperity arising from domestic and international clean growth opportunities. We strive to maximise the efficiency and impact of our activities; and to increase the awareness of our impact across our key stakeholders, funders and customers. We are an evidence-based organisation, seeking to continuously learn and improve our strategic and operational activities based on good business insight. Over the last few years, the number of projects, programmes and stakeholders has grown significantly; necessitating a step change in the maturity of our impact framework, portfolio management and business insight capabilities. This role is a key part of our Strategy & Performance team and your insights and recommendations will enable informed decisions and drive business strategy. Key Deliverables The ideal candidate will be an interdisciplinary thinker with a curious research mindset (attitudes and qualities); with some experience of quantitative/qualitative evaluation and a track record of designing evaluation frameworks and demonstrating organisational impact. The successful candidate will be expected to drive and service an annual 'Impact and Insight' strategic review and reporting cycle. This will include delivering the following key outcomes: Insight: * Develop the company vision for how evidence can drive decisions, practice and impact, as part of a strategic portfolio management approach * Support year ahead planning, including multi-layered reporting cycles, Executive deep dives, strategy and business planning * Lead the analysis and evaluation of ESC activities and translate to actionable recommendations which will drive improvements in performance and help the business hit its strategic objectives and goals * Monitor in-year progress of business leaders in converting agreed business plans to operational reality, taking in to account impact, revenue, costs, stakeholder engagement and risk * Develop best in class processes and tools to derive insight; and increase the accessibility and utility of business intelligence data and insights through appropriate data visualisation techniques and impactful reporting Impact: * Drive the implementation of a new Impact Framework across the business - maximising engagement and understanding; and supporting leaders of ESC business units to plan and embed impact evaluation across their programmes and activities * Lead the scoping and development of annual impact case studies, and the associated annual impact report (working with Communications team) * Lead our quarterly review meetings with Innovate UK (IUK) * Represent ESC on the cross-Catapult Impact Group and ensure our Impact Framework remains relevant and best in class * Lead ESC through external evaluations requested by IUK / Government (one external review expected in 2021) Reporting, Stakeholder Management and Collaborative Working: * Successful key stakeholder management relating to insight and impact reporting: internal (including Business Leaders, Executive Management Team and ESC Board) and external (including Innovate UK, BEIS and other Catapults) * Ensure that the design and implementation of our internal systems provides the necessary functionality and outputs to support our data collection, analysis and reporting requirements * Act as a key relationship manager with Innovate UK to strengthen their understanding of ESC work and building opportunities to influence wider cross-Catapult activities * Represent ESC on other cross-Catapult groups where appropriate for strategy, business planning and impact Strategy & Business Planning Team : * As an integral member of the Strategy & Business Planning team - support the Head of Strategy in developing strategic goals and organisational business/delivery plans; and in communicating impact in an engaging and compelling way to key stakeholders * Performance management and professional development of the Impact and Business Insight Analyst Key Work Activities Insight: * You will work with colleagues, and link with other ESC-wide initiatives, to embed the need for, and use of,
