Salary: Up to 52.5k + Benefits Status: Permanent / Full-time About Us Energy Systems Catapult was set up to accelerate the transformation of the UK's energy system and ensure UK businesses and consumers capture the opportunities of clean growth. The Catapult is an independent, not-for-profit centre of excellence that bridges the gap between industry, government, academia and research. We take a whole-systems view of the energy sector, helping us to identify and address innovation priorities and market barriers, in order to decarbonise the energy system at the lowest cost. The Opportunity We develop and maintain a software modelling tool called EnergyPath Networks, which is used to design cost-effective local energy systems for the UK, this software is expected to evolve and become more complex as we gather further data & insights from both external & internal partners and refine the Local Area Energy Planning methodology it underpins. It is expected that the Practice Manager could be involved in both development and use of this tool and any future energy systems modelling undertaken within the Energy Systems Catapult. Reporting to the Modelling Business Lead, you will be able to demonstrate real expertise in modelling and have a passion for working with and interpreting data and commercialising the datasets and tools. The role will be focused on four key areas: * Development and deployment of strategic energy planning tools including interpretation and communication of the outputs * Building key stakeholder relationships and communicating tool outputs * Liaison with the wider ESC * Commercial exploitation of the tools and outputs Responsibilities are identified below. Development and deployment of strategic energy planning tools: * Lead Local Area Energy Planning team in: * Day to day operation of tools. * Development and selection of input data including understanding of the most appropriate data, data sources, data collection methods, gap analyses etc. * Understanding the strengths and limitations of the tools in interpreting the outputs appropriately. * Producing communication material for different stakeholders and the approach to material use in stakeholder engagement. * Validating projects and new parts of model functionality as required. * Support tool development strategy including: * Contributing to product and technical strategies * Deliver the technical changes emanation from the strategy * Working closely with Practice Manager - National Energy Systems and the Home Energy Dynamics modellers to share best practices and datasets * Line manage the team working on EnergyPath Networks. Coach, support and develop team members. * Manage the production of outputs and interpretations of outputs from strategic planning tools. * Lead resource management for new projects. Liaise with Consultant Engineer(s) to understand required skills and match to appropriate team members. * Provide quality assurance on understanding and interpretation of outputs from strategic planning tools. * Support project manager(s) on projects in development of options and workflows for tool deployment considering both technical and commercial aspects including: * Establishing workflows and setting priorities. * Identifying skills and knowledge requirements. Stakeholder relationship building and tool output communication * Support development of methodology and capability to engage with stakeholders and build consensus including: * Engagement with Local Authorities throughout the process of developing, populating and using the tools. * Partner identification and engagement including DNOs and GNOs. * Help to gain consensus around, and approval of, the technical aspects of strategic plans. * Support communication of strategic planning tool outputs and interpretations to relevant stakeholders including Central and Regional Government, Local Authorities, Network Operators, ETI members and wider industry bodies. Liaison with wider ESC * Liaise with other ESC departments to share learning, methodologies, data sources, etc. * Provide support to other ESC projects where required and feedback on insights from these which have relevance to local area energy planning. Commercial exploitation of the tools and outputs * Liaise with the Modelling Business Lead and the Commercial Director to shape the commercial strategy of the local area energy practice * Build on existing relationships and develop new contacts in relevant organisation to ensure the Modelling Team meet direct and transfer revenue targets, and deliver impact What credentials are we ideally looking for? * Experience in using a variety of software packages such as Excel, SQL, Python and Visual Basic * Experience in translating manual data
