Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated flow cytometry expert to join Babraham Institute's cutting-edge Flow Cytometry Core Facility as a 'Flow Cytometry Technical Specialist'. The Flow Cytometry Core Facility offers a high-quality service and state-of-the-art instrumentation to members of Babraham Institute and external companies, including those based on the Babraham Research Campus The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is equipped with state-of-the-art analysers and sorters and is situated within a growing research campus that is home to the Institute and over 60 companies. The main focus of the Core is supporting and contributing to the Institute science including working with our Immunology groups for which flow cytometry is a key technology. The unique setting of the core facility on a research campus, allows world-leading Biotech companies access to the facility, which in turn gives the flow team experience in a breadth of cytometry applications. The post-holder will assist the Head of the Facility in providing a smooth and reliable cell sorting and analysis service to researchers. The post holder will contribute to day-to-day management of the facility, support the scientists using a range of cytometers and cytometry techniques. Consultations with scientists about their projects is a key part of this role, including attending relevant seminars and lab meetings, advising on experimental design and data analysis. You will be asked to become closely involved with projects from both Institute and external companies. Projects using Image Cytometry and Spectra analysis will involve collaborative work with the scientists, especially with panel design and data analysis, including multi-dimensional data analysis. The post holder may be asked to represent the Flow Core and Babraham Institute at meetings and courses internationally. There will also be the opportunity to work with cytometry companies to beta-testing equipment and evaluate equipment for use within the Core Facility. Using their expertise, the post-holder may be asked to help teach, train and mentor members of the flow core and other scientists. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience of working in a Flow Cytometry Core Facility using a range of cytometers and must have experience of using a cell sorter preferably sense-in-air and Cuvette based systems. Experience in analysis of complex data sets using software such as R, viSNE, and FlowJo would be advantageous.
