Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the R&I Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), one of the focal points for clinical research in Nottingham and the East Midlands. Research is a top priority for the Trust in relation to establishing outstanding research infrastructure as well as in relation to the recruitment of participants into research studies. The Trust for 2018/19 recruited over 14,000 participants, and recruited over 20% of the total number of participants of research studies within our Clinical Research Network in the East Midlands. The broad ranging research portfolio includes our National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre awarded in 2017-2022 in partnership with our academic partner University of Nottingham. The R&I Department also supports the NIHR Nottingham Clinical Research Facility located across three hospital sites. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) provides services to over 2.5 million residents of Nottingham and its surrounding communities and specialist services to 3 to 4 million patients. The Funding Development Officer will co-ordinate the administration and day-to-day management of the research grant application process across the NUH Clinical Divisions. This will form part of the core process for the award of research grant funding. As the Funding Development Officer you will be responsible for determining the financial cost of the pre-award research grant applications ensuring that all the costs for undertaking the research grant are accounted for and are accurately attributed. The post holder will liaise with clinical and academic departments across NUH and external partner organisations where required ensuring accurate costs are obtained. The post holder will support research grants through their lifecycle, from initial expressions of 'intention to apply' for funding through to 'grant close down'. The post holder will assist with the post-award management of the awards in conjunction with the Funding Development Manager. The post holder will be responsible for the monitoring, tracking and updating the Research and Innovation Data Management System (DOCUMAS) through the lifetime of the grant award. The post holder will liaise with researchers both internal and external to NUH and particularly with members of the R&I Finance Department, Research Governance and Divisional R&I teams to ensure the grant runs successfully. The post holder will be based in the Nottingham Health Science Partners Centre at Queens Medical Centre campus, but will travel to the City Hospital campus and other locations as required. The post holder will also be required to work flexibly within the needs of the business to accommodate periods of peak workloads as required.
