Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our acclaimed Spinal Team at the Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for two full-time Spinal Fellows to work in our team of complex spine surgeons. Both posts are for a period of 12 months: one fellow will be starting in July 2020 and the other in December 2020. The successful applicants will be working in a team of eight spinal consultants coming from either a neurosurgical or an orthopaedic background. The post will focus on spine reconstructive surgery for trauma, degenerative and oncological disease, including elective work and emergencies. Elective work will primarily take place at Charing Cross hospital while Trauma and Emergencies is carried out at St. Mary's Hospital. The latter is one of the busiest Major Trauma Centre in London and serves a catchment area of 2.5 million of inhabitants. Imperial College is the Spine Hub for the North-West London region and a tertiary referral centre for spine surgery. The unit offers exposure and hands-on training on a wide range of surgical procedures including minimally invasive surgery, anterior and lateral approaches, intradural work, pathology of the cranio-vertebral junctions and complex trauma cases. Candidates from both an orthopaedic and neurosurgical background are welcomed. The candidates should be have a strong interest in pursuing a career in spine surgery, some experience with basic spinal procedures and preferentially an academic interest in spine. The posts offer banding and will contribute towards an on call rota.
