Date: 16-Apr-2020 Location: London, United Kingdom Company: Tata Communications Job Family Descriptor This group of positions is responsible for the delivery and administration of legal services to ensure the issues of risk and governance within the business are aligned to corporate goals. Assess and manage legal risks faced by various TCL entities, including legal risk assessment for new product launches, extending operations in new geographies, cross-border telecom deals etc. Provide legal assistance to Board of TCL and TCIPL for information requests. Provide advice and legal expertise to BUs for resolution of disputes around litigations and arbitrations, police cases, statutory filings, licensing requirements, audit findings, business investment roadblocks, land disputes, accounting and taxation, etc. Supervise outside counsel in processing all court proceedings (including arbitrations, mediations and tribunals) around the world. File new patent applications as appropriate and manage existing patent portfolio. Oversee all trademark activity. Support Tata Sons' trademark applications and trademark litigations. Conduct legal research and analysis on selected topics, prepares memoranda, position papers upon request. Resolve complex and general commercial transactions. Act as main liaison point for banking and financing transactions. Monitor filing and closure of claim settlements. Prepare quarterly litigation report for presentation to Board. Draft contracts and negotiate. Build and supervise a "legal help desk" of experienced attorneys to handle global transactions of day-to-day commercial matters relating to the sale of voice, data and mobility services as well as procurement matters. The function ensures adherence to regulatory requirements by constant updation of internal systems in line with evolving regulatory requirements. Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate litigation policies, review and negotiate commercial agreements, provide legal analysis. Tactical role which provides a marked contribution to defining the direction of policies, agreements processes, standards or legal plans based upon business strategy, with a significant mid to long term impact on business unit overall results. Identifies problems and significantly improves, changes or adapts existing method and techniques. Focus is on implementation and control as well as srategy formulation Purpose - Broad objective of the role Tata Communications is seeking a highly motivated and qualified lawyer to join its legal department. The position is based in London, UK. The successful candidate will be part of our Commercial Legal Team and will report to Legal Director for Europe & Americas. The primary function will be to provide commercial transaction support and pre-litigation support for sales and business teams located within the region, and other locations as required; and to support cross functional projects and initiatives. Operating Network - Key External Operating Network - Key Internal Size and Scope of Role - Financial Size and Scope of Role - No. of direct reports Size and Scope of Role - Total team size Size and Scope of Role - Other size parameters Minimum qualification & experience * A LLB or LLM (or equivalent) degree with admission to the bar in at least one relevant jurisdiction, with at least 10 years post qualification experience in both domestic and international general corporate, commercial and contract law; * Knowledge/experience related to the telecommunications industry (knowledge and experience of other technology industries is a bonus); * Excellent technical drafter with a strong understanding of contract law, the judgment to escalate items where appropriate to other legal teams (e.g. compliance/regulatory) and/or the General Counsel; * Experience of managing multiple matters at a time, including complex transactions, and proactively engaging with internal stakeholders to drive a deal to closure; * The ability to think out of the box and to apply strategic and innovative thinking to support the business; * Ability to work autonomously (with minimal supervision), and yet work collaboratively with other members of the legal team; * Excellent communications skills, team player and a demonstrated ability to work in an unstructured, fast-paced, multi-cultural environment. Other knowledge/skills Knowledge/experience related to the telecommunications industry (knowledge and experience of other technology industries is a bonus) -experience in international telecommunications, particularly experience with mobile virtual network enablement (MVNE),
