Service/Ward/Department Summary: Tatton Unit is a 16 bedded Low secure unit based in Tameside General Hosptial. Tatton Unit provides a pathway of recovery over a three to five year pathway for people who have a diagnosed psychotic disorder. It is a part of the Rehabilitation and High Support Directorate and is one of two Low Secure Units operated by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. Tatton Unit provides high quality care to male service users Role Summary: Nursing assistants are crucial in providing the day to support and care of patients. You will be involved in providing basic nursing care, both mental and physical for the patient group. With supervision you will participate in and provide diversional, recreational, and rehabilitation activities for patients on and off the Unit. you will be responsible for the day-to-day security checks within the ward area. Basic physical care and managing violence and aggression may be involved as a part of the role. Key Responsibilities of the Post: * To contribute to the maintenance of a safe, secure and therapeutic environment in conjunction with MDT members. * To ensure effective communication, either verbal or written, is carried out amongst the team, reporting any change or unusual occurrence in an individual's behaviour or condition. * To participate in the maintenance of the Ward as a clean, tidy and safe environment. * Work in an often stressful environment, which is unpredictable with many demands on attention where patients display challenging behaviour and at times can be verbally or physically hostile. Key Requirements of the Person Specification: * Qualification or experience to NVQ 2 Level * Good verbal and written communication skills * Awareness of Mental Health problems * Commitment to working with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds * Able to work under the direct supervision of a qualified member of staff. Able to follow direction *Must be able to a shift system - long days 07.30 -19.45 or 19.30 - 07.45. Must be able to work nights as required.
