Job Description
Hours 30 hours per week Contract: Permanent North Yorkshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is looking to recruit for the retinal screening team based in the Harrogate area. This is a run through post and you will start on Band 3 moving to Band 4 when you have completed your training. Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given. Existing Retinal Screener Graders are also more than welcome to apply, and consideration will be given to the best candidate on the day. The screening locality team are part of the North Yorkshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme delivering a photographic screening service to over 42,000 people with diabetes across North Yorkshire. Experience of the use of digital fundus cameras for the capture of retinal images is an advantage. Experience of working in busy clinic environments delivering health care and working without direct supervision is useful. The post on offer is primarily based at the Harrogate locality base and the successful candidate will join the locality team delivering retinal screening in the surrounding area. The post holder however will be called to deliver the service in other areas covered by the retinal screening service as and when required, therefore it is essential you hold a full driving licence as equipment will need to be transported around the locality in specific Trust vehicles. Each team consists of a Screener Grader Team Leader and the screening team. Screener Graders travel to various locations in the retinal screening service fleet of purpose fitted vans. These locations may be GP surgeries, health centres or hospitals. The successful candidate will be expected to transport themselves and equipment across North Yorkshire to meet the demands of the service. A full UK clean driving licence is essential. The Screener Graders will undertake clinics where they will perform digital photographic image capture of patients' eyes. They will then grade (assess) the image to determine any signs of disease making the necessary reports on the outcome of the grading to ensure any problems are noted and acted upon. Being in the front line of service delivery, the Screener Grader will have contact with patients and their carers, GP practice teams and various other agencies. This will require a high level of communication skills and customer care skills are essential to ensure good relationships are developed across a diverse area. Experience in using windows-based computer systems is necessary. Experience of using digital cameras, even if it's for home photography, would be useful but not essential. The level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners (Diabetic Eye - Screener Grader) or willingness to undertake the diploma is required for this post. Nationally, a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds have opted to train as Screener Graders so please don't be put off applying if you don't have the Diploma or experience of retinal screening as full training and support will be given.
