Position Details Institute for Global Innovation Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK Full time starting salary is normally in the range 30,942 to 40,322, with potential progression once in post to 42,792 Grade 7 Full Time - 2 years fixed term contract. This should also be for an development opportunity (internal secondment) Closing date: 5th July 2020 Job summary The University of Birmingham, through its Institute for Global Innovation, is leading in the development of a biennial Forum for Global Challenges (GCF). The inaugural Global Challenges Forum will be held around the time Birmingham hosts the Commonwealth Games, in May 2022. The Global Challenges Forum will address the world's most pressing intractable and complex 'global challenges'. It will do this through detailed preparation for the conference, consulting a range of stakeholders, including holding pre-Global Challenges Forum 2022 events in different parts of the world. At the 2022 event in Birmingham, the focus will be on understanding and reviewing potential solutions to these global challenges, identifying potential obstacles to uptake and how those can be overcome. We are looking to appoint a Project Manager who will work closely with the Director of the Institute for Global Innovation and Global Challenges Forum 2022 Programme Lead. The Project Manager will co-ordinate the work of the Global Challenges Forum 2022 governing bodies and an external Events Management Company in managing the development, delivery and operation of Global Challenges Forum 2022. The Project Manager will work closely with staff of the Institute for Advanced Studies, Institute for Global Innovation and University of Birmingham Professional Services staff in event management, external relations, business engagement, marketing, public affairs, and an external event management company, external stakeholders and others. The successful candidate will have significant experience of managing and delivering projects and working with key stakeholders. They will successfully deliver the Global Challenges Forum on time and to budget; and will play a key role in ensuring the success of this unique and complex event at the University of Birmingham. Main duties 1. Co-ordinate the activities and responsibilities of the diverse group and stakeholders required to deliver this complex and unique event; University of Birmingham Global Challenges Forum Project Governance Group; Events Management Company; project partners, funders and sponsors. 2. With the Executive Group and University of Birmingham Working Group, identify and approach sponsorship opportunities. 3. Draw up and maintain overall project delivery plan with detailed plans for activities, identifying milestones as appropriate, informed by meetings of the Global Challenges Forum 2022 governance bodies. 4. Develop and maintain a project risk register, appropriately assess and escalate issues and risks. 5. With colleagues in External Relations, develop and deliver a communication strategy for Global Challenges Forum 2022. 6. Generate content and oversee creation and updating of Global Challenges Forum webpage for University of Birmingham for website. 7. Coordinate University of Birmingham activities, liaising with External Relations, Business Engagement, the Development and Alumni Relations office (DARO), Campus Services, University of Birmingham Commonwealth Games Planning Group, the Institute for Global Innovation, Finance and Research Support Services. 8. Working closely with the Events Management Company, lead on budget management and tracking. 9. Work closely with the University of Birmingham Working Group and Events Management Company in fundraising for Global Challenges Forum 2022. 10. Report on project progress, including preparation of reports such as financial and regular progress reports, to the Global Challenges Forum 2022 governance bodies.
