Job Title: Teacher of English for Academic Purposes (Pre-sessional) School / Directorate: Academic & Student Support Services Advert: Teachers of English for academic purposes (Pre-sessional) Academic & Student Support Services English Language Programmes Division We are looking for qualified and experienced English as a Foreign Language teachers to teach on summer Pre-sessional courses (English for Academic Purposes). Applicants should be qualified to degree level and hold a teaching qualification, preferably at Diploma level, and have experience in EAP/ESP teaching. Experience of working on pre-sessional programmes is a distinct advantage. Applications from UK and overseas-based applicants welcome. These are full-time, fixed-term positions (maximum 21 hours teaching per week). 29 June - 18 September 2020 (12 weeks) 06 July - 11 September 2020 (10 weeks) 13 July - 04 September 2020 (8 weeks) 20 July - 11 September 2020 (8 weeks) Remuneration: 946.14 per week (inclusive of payment in lieu of annual leave) for all courses. An additional taxable accommodation allowance of 85 per week is paid to staff renting University student accommodation. Early application is advised as interviews will be held on a rolling basis. Post Reference Number: 9454BR Job Description: * To teach on the specified Pre-sessional course for a maximum of 21 hours per week following a timetable and guidelines provided by the Course Coordinator. * To actively engage with all pre-course preparation and induction activities, including required reading of all course literature and completion of standardisation tasks (3 x email communications). * To use the specified pre-sessional course scheme of work to prepare and teach appropriate material for lessons. * To select / create supplementary materials as appropriate, according to the needs of the students and in accordance with the syllabus, assessment fit, and course aims. * To maintain appropriate teaching and admin records for the specified programme: e.g. keep lesson-by-lesson register of class work and accurate daily attendance; and produce mid-course and end-course class reports of a required standard and to a set deadline. * To participate in the administration and marking of any coursework and tests (including participating in standardisation sessions), mark student assignments / homework as required and in accordance with the assessment schedule and deadlines, set criteria and marking schemes. * To provide and record, on appropriate paperwork and in a timely fashion, detailed formative feedback for both tutor and student reference. * To act as personal tutor as required to students on the above programmes: to oversee and advise on students' progress in line with assessment criteria. * To work closely with other tutors in the team to ensure that students have the best possible learning environment and experience and to collaborate in sharing and pooling of their resources. * To participate in weekly briefings and the in-house staff development opportunities. * To maintain course email contact and respond promptly. * To attend two social evenings (maximum of 5 hours) during the course. * To complete, on an on-going basis, a tutor feedback form and return prior to departure at the end of the course. * To support the Pre-sessional Course Co-ordinator in broader aspects of the teaching programme. * To carry out other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the post, as required by the line manager (Head of Section or nominee). * To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate. * To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, EC directives and the University's Safety, Health and Environment Policies and procedures and to cooperate with the University on any legal duties placed on it as the employer. * All staff in the Division will be expected to work flexibly as part of the team to achieve the Division's objectives and to perform other tasks which are not included above but which may be required from time
