Teacher Fellows (Chemistry) - Wales Our client seeks to appoint up to two Teacher Fellows in Wales to support teachers in preparation for the roll-out of major changes to the national curriculum and wider education system in Wales, when Teachers will have more autonomy in developing the curriculum at school level. our client aims to support teachers through these changes by providing guidance on how to develop a curriculum that builds understanding and skills in chemistry and fulfils the aims of the new Curriculum for Wales. Closing Date: 05 April 2020 About the role: As a Teacher Fellow for Wales, you will cover the writing of such guidance and will focus on either the full curriculum, or the primary or secondary phase, and will: - Work with the Education Publishing, Education Policy and Regions teams throughout the project, drawing on expertise within those teams. - Understand the needs of individual teachers and schools in your area. - Build successful relationships as required to inform the work, for example with other schools / teachers and with other STEM stakeholders. They currently have up to two home-based temporary Teacher Fellow – Wales opportunities available, which depending on feasibility could be offered on the following basis: - As either a secondment from an existing teaching role (please discuss with your school before applying) or as a full-time or part-time fixed-term employment contract, depending on the successful applicant’s situation. - Either as a single role covering primary and secondary, or as two roles, with one covering primary and the other secondary, during school term time. - On a fixed-term basis; we anticipate approximately 1 term of full-time work will be required to complete the primary curriculum guidance, and 2 terms to complete the secondary curriculum guidance. Part-time models can be considered in both instances. About you: - A teaching qualification and either current or recent experience in schools. - Primary curriculum requires current or recent experience as a science curriculum leader (or equivalent). - Secondary curriculum requires a degree in science, preferably in the chemical sciences (or an equivalent qualification). - An understanding of school level, further, and higher education and a breadth of knowledge of the education systems in Wales. - An understanding of best practice in curriculum development in relation to chemistry at the level(s) applied for (primary and/or secondary). - The ability to conduct research work, compile and analyse information. - Good communication, team working, organisational, and presentation skills. - The ability to work independently and adapt to new circumstances. - Good project management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise work, and meet deadlines. - Close attention to detail and high standards of excellence. Desirable knowledge and skills: - An awareness of applications, and contexts involving chemical sciences in Wales and beyond. - Computer and IT systems literate. - Welsh speaker. You will need to be able to be suitably home based, and extensive travel throughout Wales, and other parts of the UK will be required to visit schools, meet and work with stakeholders and attend events, which may involve weekends and non core working hours.
