" As part of our forward looking succession plans, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are excited to announce we are looking to recruit a Fire Safety Manager/Engineer within our Protection Team, to manage a small team of Fire Safety Inspecting Officers and undertake fire engineering related work at our Area Office at Ascot Drive, Derby working 37 hours per week. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is a high achieving, dynamic and forward thinking organisation and as part of this recruitment process we will be looking for positive, talented and motivated individuals who will be able to help shape and develop all aspects of fire safety enforcement in the years to come. This will ensure that the level of service and fire safety protection offered to the people of Derbyshire continues to be of the highest standard. You will work with members of the public, diverse groups and businesses across Derbyshire to provide advice and reduce the risk from fires includes major projects for both the built environment and infrastructure. You will be required to manage and support a small team of Fire Inspectors to achieve performance targets. You and your team will be required to ensure that owners and occupiers of buildings comply with current fire safety regulations, sometimes in challenging situations. Therefore a confident, enthusiastic and professional attitude is essential, along with excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. The successful candidate will ideally be a qualified engineer with experience in evaluating fire engineered solutions in the built environment. The candidate will have excellent understanding of fire engineering related design guidance and Regulations and good working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. As well as working on fire engineered design solutions as part of the Building Regulations consultation process, the role may also involve representation at regional and national groups relating to public and firefighter safety to seek for continual improvement in standards. You will be part of our wider service Protection team working with other Fire Safety Inspecting Officers to provide support and guidance for our Protection delivery teams with a leading role in Fire Engineering. You will be developed within the role and have the opportunity to progress through the career progression criteria. You will be required to attend training (sometimes residential) in and out of Derbyshire as and when instructed to do so. The postholder may be required to work from various Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service locations as necessary and must hold a full driving licence. A pool car will be provided. The normal working week is 37 hours, however you may occasionally need to work beyond normal office hours and at evenings and weekends as required.
