Job Description

Salary: 20,076 - 22,614 per annum Permanent Contract 37 Hours per Week The Council provides temporary accommodation to applicants whilst homelessness applications are investigated. We have our own hostels managed by our outreach within the Thurrock area. The role will include working with a variety of households and client groups, some of whom may be vulnerable, and you will be liaising with appropriate internal departments and external agencies ensuring that licenses are sustained, and issues addressed. You will be providing good quality housing related support to service users with a range of needs in line with client led actions identified in their support plans, and with organisational policies and procedures Specifically, you will Improve each client's quality of life; prevent homelessness through promoting or maintaining independent living skills and appropriate move on. This includes establishing individual's needs and provide housing and benefits advice, liaise with other Local Authorities, Housing Options teams, external drug and alcohol agencies and housing providers, signpost clients to external support agencies, helping clients access employment and education. You will also be placing applicants into suitable, available accommodation, undertaking a sign-up process when requested, following relevant legislative guidelines and internal procedures. You will monitor occupation of our hostel units in accordance with the licence agreements, and deal with notifications regarding rent payments or tenancy breaches. The role will also necessitate monitoring contents and condition of temporary accommodation, including communal cleaning, repairs and redecoration, health and safety inspections, insurances (equipment and building), reporting defects where necessary, ensuring the Council retain a high standard of provision. Liaison with the Housing Solutions Team will be essential, as well as with other teams ensuring a holistic support is provided. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to use housing systems and databases to maintain clear, up to date records is essential. A check will be undertaken with the Disclosure and Barring Service, to ensure that the successful candidate for the above post has no relevant convictions.
