This is notonly a huge growth opportunity with the number of nicotine consumers now growing again globally after decades of decline, but it also allows BAT to be part of the solution by having the potential to significantly reduce the harm caused by smoking. Within a few years', we have built these new categories to a business with a Net Turnover of 2billion, but the ambition and opportunity is obviously many times greater. We are still at the start ofthe journey. This transformation is much bigger than only the new products itself. For instance, it requires us to build some new global mega brands, it changes the 'route to consumer' to an omnichannel approach with a greater emphasis on E-commerce and owned retail and it requires many new capabilities from device design to partnerships with leading consumer electronic companies.Given the dynamic nature of the new categories, BAT needs to become more agile and entrepreneurial and recruit new skills and capabilities externally. Many of the new categories are based on electronic vaping and tobacco heating devices . The device design plays a critical role in the device appeal. In fact, roughly two third of the appeal is driven by design and the remaining one third by functionality. In addition, it plays a pivotal role in establishing the brand equity. BAT has been relying on third party designers to date, but given its crucial importance with consumers, is now keen to build senior in-house design capability. Principle Accountabilities: * Fundamentally redefine, create and embed a new product (device design) & user experience design (UX) for development across New Categories. * Play a key role in the formulation of Brand Strategy ensuring design is at the heart and that all design expressions segue with our Brands and their objectives. * Be a leader with industrial design activities and design projects, to provide compelling design archetypes and quality to align with New Categories brands (Glo, Vuse, Velo etc.) * From real-time agile research, consumer listening and assimilation of trends, translate consumer insights into clear design that drive and shape device, device ecosystem (accessories & peripherals) and user interface/ user experience from the start of all project streams. * Provide creative leadership for all New Categories brands and be directly involved in design authorship, idea generation and solution finding, inspiring both internal stakeholders and external partners including agencies to establish a design-centric mind-set and respect the importance of design to future success. * Lead and be responsible on end-to-end projects delivery on multiple design projects from early concept development to final production and ensure and manage device aesthetics and quality in relationship to R&D and Operations, for feasible manufacturing solutions and business effectiveness, for in-market success * Develop effective working relationships with New Categories, R&D, Operations and other stakeholders, to ensure that world class product design within the New Categories industry and creative ideas are available to support brand strategies. * Responsible for leading and managing projects using external resources such as project planning and brief for right fit Agencies, work and manage projects and control quality of outputs from external agencies by presenting the design strategy and input to guide them * Establish a collaborative partnership approach with stakeholders to flawlessly blend aesthetic and functional design considerations and ensure this is maintained through production to launch * Be responsible for all design prototyping and create tangible and feasible design solution to support design concepts to be realize in advance. * Create advance design concept consists of product design, UX/UI and early prototyping to ensure ideas and opportunity into tangible and feasible design to persuade internal stakeholders and collaborate early with R&D for the POC/POA development. * Explore and develop creative design concepts to feasible prototype in advance to expand innovation pipelines for early opportunity finding. * Actively engage in upcoming technology in design prototyping, industry insight in order to bring creative ideations on design concepts and prototypes * Leading on-going design concepts for design for manufacture, supporting in mechanical feasibility, get support from internal R&D / external ODM to solve manufacturing / operational issues Context/Environment: Our new colleague will be within the New Categories Marketing CoE structure reportingto the senior design manger and workingclosely with the Design Director of design i
