The Role: Do you want to work with an expert group of AI scientists to build the world's most sophisticated fraud detection system while working with Interpol and governments around the world and operating at unprecedented performance levels with error rates of less than 1 in a million (99.9999% performance levels)? At Onfido we are looking for an exciting and dynamic leader who can lead and guide a team of AI scientists to push the envelope on unsolved problems like uncertainty modelling, interpretable AI, protection against adversarial and Deep Fake attacks, and generalised concept drift detectors within human-in-the-loop systems. What you will be doing: * Provide technical and people leadership for a team of applied machine learning scientists, fostering a culture of support and collaboration in the team and across the broader research organisation. * Initiate, plan and prioritise projects in collaboration with product managers and other research leads. Create innovative roadmaps that bring significant improvement to current products. * Hire and retain top talent, support, mentor and coach your team members to reach their best performance and grow in their career path * Participate in hands-on machine learning tasks, ensure quality of the delivered solutions from your team. Test and monitor the performance of machine learning models. * Define team KPIs, monitor and continuously improve team performance * Communicate technical vision and roadmap at multiple levels within the organisation and externally. Manage multiple levels of stakeholders (product team, machine learning team, clients) * Be an external ambassador for Onfido providing thought leadership across the industry in area of expertise * Publish research results in national and international conferences and scientific journals. Represent Onfido at national and international scientific conferences. * Contribute to writing grant proposals and filing patents. Essential Skills and Requirements: * PhD or MSc degree in Machine Learning, Computer Vision or a related quantitative field. * 5+ years of experience in machine learning and computer vision, including at least 3 to 5 years of industry experience. * Lead a team of machine learning specialists, working collaboratively with engineering and product management. * Track record of successfully delivering high performance ML-driven products. * Worked with customers to impactfully solve their problems. * Successfully mentored people and teams achieve their full potential. * Deep understanding of machine learning theory. * Good coding skills in Python (C++ is considered a plus) and hands on experience using at least one of the deep learning frameworks Tensorflow or PyTorch.
