The Role This is a fantastic opportunity to join a hugely talented test team within one of the most exciting organisations in the marketplace today. An experienced and enthusiastic Senior Test Engineer is required to undertake various critical test activities while providing expertise and support to the team. The YouView Middleware Test team is central to the timely delivery of high-quality software from the YouView Engineering team. The team undertakes 'Dev Testing' of pre-integrated software components as well as integration and end-to end testing of the YouView Ecosystem. Test team members interact with most areas of the business as well as external teams such as Device Manufacturers and Content Partners. This calls for excellent communication skills, strong technical ability, a drive to get things done and confidence to make changes where necessary. Responsibilities Support test engineers in the team - answering technical questions and giving guidance for the execution of test cases. Develop, maintain and enhance test cases and environments for use by the test team and external Device Manufacturers. Define test scope, strategy and test cases based on technical specifications, product features and integration risk. Prioritise, plan and execute tests. Write test plans for the testing of new middleware features. Identify, analyse, triage and prioritise defects by working collaboratively with multiple teams. Raise defects in Jira. Learn and share knowledge about the YouView software stack and develop personal expertise in more than one functional area. Support test managers by reporting test results and providing a balanced and pragmatic approach to managing test scope, risk and time. Work on a daily basis with Development, Integration, Architecture, Operations, Product, and 3rd party external teams. Essential Skills and Experience:- Candidates must be able to demonstrate all of these. * Creating, developing and executing test cases. * Identifying issues, documenting them and assigning accurate severity using a bug tracking system (e.g. Jira). * Problem analysis, for example, using logs or debugging tools. * Exposure to Linux, including the command line interface, particularly in an embedded environment. * Knowledge of a software stack and how the major components relate to each other. * Ability to work in an agile software environment. * Skill at working across team boundaries. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills - strong at engaging in technical detail. * STB and broadcast technologies - DTT and IPTV. * In-depth technical investigation of issues. Desired Skills:- The test team is flexible about which of these skills the candidate has, and it is not necessary for candidates to have all of them. * Embedded systems testing. * Test automation, either from writing tests or analysing test results (e.g. Selenium, STB Tester). * Low-level diagnosis of issues down to software component or API level. * Networking, particularly IP multicast (e.g. RTP) and common protocols such as HTTP. Solving problems using network protocol analysis tools (e.g. Wireshark). * Scripting - this is not a programming role, however, some experience of Bash, Perl, Python or JavaScript is useful. * Understanding the challenges related to testing C and C++. * DVB and MPEG2 transport streams, H.264/5. * OTT streaming, e.g. DASH, HLS, Smooth Streaming. * Understanding of DRM (e.g. Microsoft PlayReady, Marlin). * Understanding of cloud-connected devices and metadata from a cloud source.
