Job Description

We are looking to recruit 2 part time School Health Care Assistants. * Post one is for 15 hrs per week, working term time only in the Wycombe area. * Post two is for 15 hrs per week, working term time only in the Chalfonts area. You may be required to travel to other sites as service needs require. You will help deliver a comprehensive service for school age children and their families under the supervision of the Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner; School Nursing. Experience of working in the community and /or children is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. The Specialist Community Public Health service is made up of, Locality leads, School Nurses (SCPHN), Community Staff Nurses, Child and Health Wellbeing Advisers/Nursery Nurses, School Health Assistants with Team Administrator support. Teams are based within the community and offer services locally to children and families to deliver targeted interventions to address health inequalities. Working as a team player under the delegation of the School Nurses your role will require excellent communication, organisational skills, partnership working and a strong commitment towards achieving the outcomes of The Healthy Child Programme. The role of the School Health Assistant involves weighing and measuring children within the National Childhood Measurement Programme, Vision screening for 4-5 year olds and occasional hearing tests. You will be contributing to local and national targets for school health screening and you will be expected to communicate findings to parents. There may also be opportunities to deliver some health education in schools to whole classes or small groups. Good IT skills will ensure accurate data collection and record keeping are essential. We use online tools to undertake our screening programmes. You will also support the teams during the delivery of nasal flu immunisations in schools. With internal training, you will be expected to understanding aspects of safeguarding children whilst being supported by a high level of professional support, clinical supervision. This will be supported and validated by a BHT CARE Certificate. Use of a vehicle and possession of a full driving licence is essential.
