Purpose of the Role Senior grade experienced member of Ground staff, who is able to train, coach, mentor and assess trainee and other Groundstaff within the company in Shunting and Loads Examination duties Key Success Measures Safety, support the implementation of the Colas Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives, to deliver continuous improvement in all areas. Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability Undertake Groundstaff and Loads Examiner duties demonstrating to a high level of professionalism. Instruct, mentor and assess Groundstaff on Shunting, Loads Examination and railway operational skills. Develop Methods of Working for new flows & review existing documents. Fully competent in train preparation and In Service Train Examination and Loads Examination for all load types. Report writing skills. Ensure Groundstaff practical competence assessments are conducted, uploaded into Core HR and Safety Critical Files are updated accordingly. Deliver face-to-face briefings with staff as directed. Assist the Operations Manager as instructed. Undertake on call duties as per rota Conduct Accident & Incident investigations as instructed. Work with the Resources Section to ensure Groundstaff duties are covered on all NSC sites. Ensure all Groundstaff are fully trained to undertake the range of duties required by the business. The above does not limit your duties and the company may require you from time to time to undertake work within your capability and competence. As you will expect the organization may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements. Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time. Person Specification Possess and constantly display all of the attributes of the five E'sEnergy, Energize, Edge, Execute and Engage Be confident and a role model when dealing with all staff with good attention to detail. Have good knowledge of the current requirements for Health and Safety and Rail Industry Standards. Be a proven team player with a logical searching mind Qualified Groundstaff and Loads Examiner with significant experience in freight train operations and an excellent safety record. 301/302 Assessor qualification Qualified Instructor Good technical knowledge of all Colas Rail traction & rolling stock.
