Must have strong MS Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Also required are excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven history of providing exceptional customer service at all levels. Customs Operation: Objectives * Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of the customs department by managing and mentoring the Customs Supervisors, Lead Agents and custom agents. * Enhance overall operational performance and compliance at the desk level by ensuring that work is performed at the branches in conformance to company policies and all government regulations * Elevate the level of operational performance & compliance awareness within the branch through strong communication, coaching and training, which includes on-the-job training, classroom training and CBT or workbook training * Sustain operational and compliance excellence in order to protect Expeditors * Validate effectiveness of our performance & controls through constant monitoring, oversight, feedback and risk assessment * Ensure Expeditors deliver's superior customer service every time * Constantly drive for continuous improvement and efficiency gains within the department & branch * Promote an environment of exception management. * Promote proactive and collaborative communication between yourself, the management team and branch staff * Promote, as appropriate, proactive and collaborative communication with local and national representatives of government agencies related to customs & trade activities Customs operations overview * * * Responsibility for the delivery of: * All Expeditors' company policies, customs policies, controls, procedures and processes in operation to the customs team * Ensure operational and customer service expectations are exceeded at every level and key performance indicators (KPIs) are met * Ensure files are logged correctly and timely with references, trace types and proper milestone events * Manage, monitor and train staff in the use of Expeditors' applications, tools, systems * Develop optimum processes without sacrificing compliance, oversight or controls * Constantly seek to improve the operational efficiency of the department. * Use workflow and management reports to oversee and manage the operation * Control workflow within department * Control document receipt and distribution (hard copy and electronic documents) * Ensure that all correspondence is handled timely and professionally * Stay current with developments and changes in regulations and company offerings; educate staff as these happen * Understand the requirements of HMRC and other government agencies * Control the department's interface with Customs and or other government authorities * Ensure all customs and customer operating procedures are in place and adhered to. Finance * Assist the customs product by ensuring the department reaches budgeted revenue figure * Manage/Reduce expenses * Manager, monitor and improve yields. * Ensure that all files are timely billed and correctly * Ensure no duty/VAT is unbilled daily. * Ensure that all billing and billing packages are timely mailed or electronically transmitted including the correct and complete documents and backup * Ensure company credit policies are followed. * Manage execution of credit policy * Review department P + L monthly and understand composition of clients, revenue, file type and complexity for customs entries * Review all billed not paid and paid not billed items for monthly proper closing * Review entries for proper use of bill codes, GL codes and file types * Manage revenue recognition * Review customer A/R for area of respon
