Job Description

An established house builder are looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to work from their office in Sevenoaks, Kent The role: Reporting to the Commercial Manager in a team with responsibility for the financial performance of house building projects and improving the operating margin and adding value to projects. Key Responsibilities of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor: Help advise on the Financial and Contractual Aspects of multiple projects Attend design team meetings/development meetings and contract pre-start/subcontract package review meetings. Liaise with Development Surveyors to help establish requirements for pre-contract expenditure and strategic procurement. Receive initial tender information and prepare and help update procurement programmes. Help agree selection of Subcontractors for works packages. Help approve competency of Subcontractors for inclusion on the Subcontractor's Approved List. Help maintain and review approved list of Subcontractors in accordance with the Departmental procedures. Help monitor production of information and advise financial feasibility of design development. Help prepare subcontract tender documentation, analyse tender returns and make recommendations on subcontractor selection. Help prepare tender evaluations, A1 and C6 accounts forms for approval / signing by authorised signatory. Help attend subcontract pre-order meetings and agree post tender variations and matters affecting tender sum. Help prepare/monitors subcontract documentation and warranties for eventual engrossment by parties to the contract. Help prepare and agree initial preliminaries costings with Construction Director and monitors expenditure. Liaise with contract buyer to determine allowances within budget for the direct procurement of materials and monitor material purchasing costs and incorporate in contract financial reports. Attend site meetings, project team meetings and subcontract meetings during currency of contract. Help prepare and submit notices and applications for Client / Agent for Extension of Time claims. Help ensure Subcontractors are prequalified with respect to H and S and that all H and S documentation is in place prior to starting on site. Keep RAMS schedule updated and issue to relevant parties. The Person: It is likely you will have previously worked as either a Trainee Quantity Surveyor,Assistant Quantity Surveyor,Commerical Trainee, Surveyor,QS or Commercial graduate in a similar house building environment. Experience in housing would be helpful. Desirable criteria: HNC or HND in Building Studies or Qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
