Overview of the Department: EMEA Legal provides legal services to and manages legal risk for MUFG's banking arm in EMEA and securities arm internationally. In managing legal risk, EMEA Legal seeks to develop and implement policies and procedures in order that MUFG's contracts are legally appropriate, our litigation and regulatory proceedings are managed effectively, we comply with laws and regulations and receive appropriate and timely legal advice on regulatory changes. As a member of EMEA Legal, you will represent MUFG's banking arm and securities arm under a dual-hat arrangement. Under this arrangement, you will represent both the bank and the securities business, subject to the same remit and level of authority, and irrespective of the entity which employs you. Main purpose of the role: Legal counsel responsible for providing and procuring employment-related legal advice and managing employment-related legal risk. Key responsibilities: Your key responsibilities will include to: * Provide thought leadership on employment-related legal issues through maintaining a broad understanding of MUFG's business and strategy and keeping ahead of legal developments and market trends. * Provide strategic and business-as-usual legal advice and risk analysis on employment-related laws and regulations, including financial regulatory, data protection and other issues of relevance to the employment relationship. * Partner closely with HR to identify and provide timely legal advice on employee relations issues that may carry legal risk for the firm. * Manage employment litigation and advise on employment issues relevant to other litigation and internal or external investigation matters, working with litigation and investigations specialists. * Support HR and management on consultations / negotiations with works councils / other employee representative bodies. * Draft and advise on legal documentation such as employment contracts, secondment agreements and agreements relating to business transfers / reorganisations. * Act as Legal's representative to HR, liaising between HR and the wider Legal department and external counsel to connect Legal and HR resources as appropriate to support business initiatives and strategy. * Advise HR on developing and enhancing policies, procedures and other measures to mitigate legal risk and support business strategy. * Develop and deliver training on employment-related laws and regulations. * Develop and manage external counsel relationships and oversee the delivery of high quality and cost-efficient external employment-related advice. * Contribute to and promote MUFG's diversity and inclusion and other culture initiatives. * Support Legal in escalating and advising senior management on material and emerging employment-related legal risks. As a member of EMEA Legal you are generally be expected to, among other things: * Provide legal advice on, participate in and implement MUFG transactions, proceedings, actions, projects and initiatives. * Review, draft and negotiate documentation for MUFG matters, whether transactional or non-transactional. * Advise on the legal, regulatory and reputational issues arising in transactions and the non-transactional aspects of the operation and business activities of MUFG. * Develop, maintain and implement document templates, know-how and procedures. * Provide training on legal and regulatory issues. * Manage the relationship, selection, retention and related costs of external legal advisors. Work experience: Required: * Minimum of 4 years' post-qualification experience either in-house at a major financial institution or corporate and/or in a leading law firm advising on employment laws and regulations. * Strong expertise in UK employment law. Preferred: * Experience advising on other laws relevant to the employment relationship such as financial regulatory requirements (e.g. UK Senior Managers and Certification Regime) and data protection laws. * Experience
