HMP Wakefield is a Categroy A prison and houses approx. 720 offenders, with a multitude of often complex health needs. The role brings a great opportunity to embrace change and embed culture and will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed level of nursing skills. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response. So what do we have to offer? We recognise training and development is essential, therefore we have a service training needs analysis to identify and support individual and service wide skills gaps and training needs. The opportunity to gain insight and training into Mental Health and Substance Misuse. If you are new to nursing or offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role. About the role As a Staff Nurse within prison health, in the primary care area you can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You'll carry out - and potentially develop - nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when needed. In the in patients area you will deliver holistic care to patients on end of life pathways, with complex health needs, post-surgery or for suicide or self-harm support. Across everything you do, you'll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease. About you As an RGN/RN 1 with valid NMC registration, you'll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and a real passion for taking your skills even further. It goes without saying that you'll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you'll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations. Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time. Further job information The full-time role will be working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis across 7 days including weekends and nights. The salary for this role is up to 33,000 per annum depending on experience.
