JOIN OUR TUNNEL DEPARTMENT IN LONDON In Tunnel-UK, you will become part of our Tunnels and Underground Infrastructure unit with skilled experts. Tunnel and Underground Infrastructure is among the tunnelling departments with the largest capacity in the world. We hold expertise in installations and mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) engineering. Our services cover the entire lifecycle of a tunnel, from feasibility studies to the operational phase and refurbishment. DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS In this position, you will join our global team of experts and work closely with the Director. Your primary task will be to lead geotechnical designs on a wide variety of tunnelling, shaft and underground engineering projects, offering technical advice to project teams, liaising with clients and mentoring / developing less experienced engineers and ensuring we achieve the project requirements. You will have a broad range of technical experience to support the geotechnical sectors of our business. You will be capable of running a small project, liaising with clients, contractors and sub-contractors or working as a part of a team on major projects. On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for: * Detailed design and analysis * Geomechanical principles and their application, including some or all of: * Soil mechanics and foundation design * Rock mechanics and rock mass behaviour * Slope stability and slope remediation * Groundwater behaviour * Project management from feasibility to detailed design, including all technical, programme and cost monitoring * Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice * Approval of designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures and coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers * Preparation of risk assessments and full compliance with CDM * You will have experience in the pragmatic use of Plaxis 2D and ideally 3D modelling COWI is a leader within our field because our employees are leaders within theirs. Furthermore, you should have: * An MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, a degree in Civil Engineering and ideally you will be chartered (CGeol or CEng) or be nearing chartered status * Geotechnical engineering experience will ideally relate to tunnelling and shaft design OR transferrable/similar underground structures (a strong mix experience of deep basements, ground movement, piling and other appropriate underground structures, may be acceptable) * Working experience in a design environment, site experience would be advantageous * Familiarity with Eurocodes, have a sound understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically the designers' requirements and the risk assessment process * Experience in the pragmatic use of Plaxis 2D and ideally 3D modelling (or similar geotechnical modelling software DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS?
