About the team: We are passionate about connecting buyers and sellers around the world and creating opportunities through commerce and technology. Our responsibilities include all aspects of eBay's business in the EMEA region including eBay's operations in major European markets -- UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain -- as well as driving growth in emerging markets such as Turkey. Primary responsibilities include: Regulatory advising and engagement * Work with business and functional partners to expand payments products in the UK and EU. * Support relationships with regulators on license-related matters * Collaborate with Government Relations and other teams regarding new regulatory initiatives. Product counseling * Review payments product structure, flows and marketing to ensure compliance with legal requirements. * Draft disclosures, terms of service and other user-facing language for payments product launches and updates. * Identify legal ramifications of growing eBay's operating model with respect to payments products. * Independently coordinate with functional partners, including the Global Payments and Billing organization, Product, Tax, Finance, Privacy, Information Security, Litigation, IP, Corporate, Compliance, Regional Legal Teams and other internal teams as needed. Ongoing support * Advise partners on risks associated with different deals. * Collaborate with business and functional partners to understand, structure, draft, negotiate and close commercial agreements with external partners. * Work with business and functional partners to execute on a regulatory and licensing strategy with respect to certain payments products in multiple jurisdictions. * Partner with the payments business unit, product and tech and functional organizations, acting as a real-time legal advisor to understand their needs and help find creative solutions to achieve business objectives. Main requirements: * Law degree and authorisation to practice law in the United Kingdom or a member state of the EU. * 6-8 years of relevant legal experience, with experience at a global company of scale in FinTech, the payments organization of a large marketplace/platform company and/or achieving similar strategic outcomes for a payments organization at scale * Understanding of legal principles applicable to payments, including the payments ecosystem (e. g., the role of acquiring and issuing banks, card networks, payment processors, gateways, etc.), regulatory and licensing strategy and execution (e. g., stored value, money transmission, compliance obligations, privacy and licensing issues) and consumer protection laws * Experience with the EU framework, including the second Payment Services Directive, the fourth and fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directives, strong customer authentication, Regulation (EU) 2015/847 and the credit (regulated and unregulated) framework. * Willingness to be flexible with the scope and variety of projects to be undertaken in this role * Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced culture * A practical, solutions-oriented focus to solving legal challenges * Capable of working with minimal direction * Proactive * Excellent judgment and project leadership skills, able to handle and deliver on numerous high-priority projects concurrently * Someone who does not settle for the status quo, but is always thinking about innovative ways of doing things * Fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages advantageous Benefits: Benefits are an essential part of your total compensation for the work you do every day.
