Job Description
This exciting opportunity arises to cover maternity leave for a scientist in the R and D team. The function of this Scientist role within the Glasgow Branch of Bruker Microbiology and Diagnostics is to provide hands-on technical expertise in all aspects of Research and Development of new molecular diagnostic assays. Scientists will also provide support functions across all areas of the business including quality management, quality assurance and manufacturing. Working as a member of the Research and Development team, duties will include: + Research of new product requirements in line with customer expectations + Development of new molecular diagnostic assays which fulfil customer requirements and maintain the integrity of the molecular diagnostic offerings already available + In particular, acquire the skills necessary for a full understanding of the Bruker MALDI Biotyper platform and develop new molecular diagnostics assays which take advantage of the benefits of this instrumentation. + Development and implementation of strategies to deliver new products to a high standard and ensure project deadlines and objectives are met + Maintaining accurate records of work and reporting data both internally and, if necessary, to other colleagues or organizations + Working within a compliant framework to ensure all R&D processes are documented as per any quality and regulatory requirements + Delivering training on the current product portfolio to internal colleagues and at customer sites as required + Providing technical support and assistance to customers and to colleagues, either directly or by remote diagnosis + Supporting the sales team by providing technical data or answering technical queries + Supporting other functions across all areas of the facility to supplement resource and ensure project deadlines are met + Occasional travel to support the needs of the projects. Qualifications, Skill and Experience + a degree level qualification in molecular biology, microbiology, virology or be able to demonstrate a similar level of knowledge and skill gained by practical experience. + Industry laboratory experience in a Research and Development environment + a current driving licence valid in the UK may be an advantage + no restrictions preventing travel + knowledge of IVD Medical devices or Diagnostics + experience of working within an ISO13485 / ISO9001 regulated framework + the capacity to take responsibility for the design and development of sophisticated molecular diagnostic assays + ability to diagnose causes of malfunction and to actively resolve customers problems + good computer literacy, including familiarity with industry standard operating systems + the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with good spoken and written English.
