Job Description

Your new role As Regional Director you'll be accountable to the Programme Director for the delivery of the major projects within the Midlands, in accordance with the requirements of the Government's Roads Investment Strategy (RIS) and Highways England's Delivery Plan. You'll be accountable for health and safety within the region and for the time, cost and quality of regional projects. You will be responsible for setting the direction, leading, managing and developing the regional Highways England team and for the timely appointment and subsequent management of supply chain partners to support the delivery programme. What you'll be leading on Leading the Programme within Midlands in a collaborative and inclusive way whilst ensuring that the team in that region develops to meet the requirements of the programme including readiness for construction Delivering the projects identified in Highways England's Delivery Plan for the region in accordance with programme and budgetary requirements Setting and maintaining standards of health, safety and welfare in the region that are consistent with those of Highways England and the Programme as a whole - not only including Highways England's own workforce but also the supply chain, road users and the general public Directing, motivating and maintaining a competent, well-trained, flexible and engaged workforce in the region which is capable of meeting current and future anticipated needs of the programme Developing a customer-focused culture that maximises performance and the efficient use of public money, that minimises disruption and inconvenience during works, and that improves the network for all categories of road user in the longer term Building and maintaining strong and effective relationships with principal stakeholders, both within Highways England and with public bodies and services, communities, businesses and other organisations in the region To be successful Be able to demonstrate a track record in delivering a complex programme of high value capital infrastructure schemes You will be able to show how, through your leadership and involvement, the schemes for which you have been responsible have achieved their principal objectives and/or outcomes Have experience of engaging with and influencing senior public stakeholders including parliamentary members and statutory bodies Lead confidently on health, safety and wellbeing matters You will generally have good commercial and organisational skills and can demonstrate working with extensive supply chains of professional and/or technical service providers, holding partners to account whilst maintaining good collaborative relationships. You will have presence, gravitas and credibility and will be an influential leader or senior manager.
