Job Description

Start your career and grow with Cafcass Few jobs are as important as protecting a child's needs and wishes. That's why our training programme gives Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) an exceptional grounding in children's social care. Over three years, we'll equip you to do something vital and amazing: to be the voice of the child in family court proceedings. Cafcass (the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) works with children and their families, and advises the courts on the best interests of individual children. Although we're independent of the courts and social services, we work under the rules of the Family Court and legislation. We want to develop social workers into highly skilled professionals who'll ensure that children come first in a complex legal system. If you've yet to register for an ASYE post, you could be eligible for our highly regarded training programme. In year one, you'll have your ASYE (Assessed & Supported Year in Employment) with us. In year two, you'll spend between 3 and 12 months with a local authority to broaden your experience. Year three will see you enjoy further academic development opportunities. Then, once you've completed the course, we'll help you build a successful, fulfilling career. We're looking for soon-to-be qualified Social Workers (or those who've recently gained a recognised qualification). You should also be able to register with Social Work England by August 2020 and ready to start in September. Remember that working with us is very different to working with a local authority - as you'll discover. You could be supporting children who are involved in divorces, adoptions or care proceedings. They'll be depending on you to secure the right result at a crucial time. Determination and resilience are essential, along with a gift for communication. If you haven't already, please ensure you take the time to find out more about the programme and the eligibility to apply. However, if you are ready to apply and let us know why you are ready to learn and grow with Cafcass, please complete our short application process, which includes providing us with a copy of your current CV. As part of your application you will also be able to indicate if you have a 2nd choice location, so you don't need to make two separate applications if this is the case. We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships. We are also a Disability Confident Employer which further underlines our commitment to employ, train, retain and develop the careers of colleagues with disabilities. Please be advised successful applicants will be subject to a range of pre-engagement checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In accordance with the DBS code of practice and our own policy, should an individual have a declared criminal offence an individual assessment will be completed. Further information on what the assessment covers can be found by viewing the Cafcass DBS policy.
