Job Description

Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 37.5 Hours per week This is an exciting full time entry grade Psychological Medicine post working into the Pain and Renal Psychology Services (0.7 FTE for Pain service and 0.3 FTE for Renal service). The post is suitable for a newly qualified Clinical Psychologist or for a Clinical Psychologist who has had some years of experience. The post will involve providing psychological assessment, formulation and treatment to patients with chronic pain and renal problems. The post holder will be working within MDT settings, as well as individually with clients. Within the MDT setting the post holder will be expected to offer psychological insight and knowledge around the clinical area, and advise non-psychology staff on psychological principles and psychological understanding of distressed patients and their families. There will be opportunities to input to the Pain Management Programme and to become skilled in pre-surgical assessment as you work with patients considering spinal cord stimulation and renal procedures. The post holder may be required to become involved with teaching and/or training that is regularly offered by the Department of Psychological Medicine to a range of groups, within HYMS, York Hospital staff and York and Hull University students. We are pleased to be looking for a qualified Clinical Psychologist who is motivated in working psychologically in medical settings, and comfortable at both a team and individual client level to join our well established Psychological Medicine department. Some training or placement experience with clients in acute hospital settings is an advantage, along with familiarity of psychological assessment and formulation in health care, as well as planning and delivering psychological interventions to clients with long term physical conditions. Innovation around training and teaching would be an advantage too, as we deliver teaching to non-psychology staff as York Hospital. You would also be expected to take on a departmental wide role suitable to your grade. Supervision from Clinical Psychology colleagues working within Psychological Medicine will be provided, as well as regular managerial and peer support. We are a growing team of clinical psychologists who are valued within our Hospital Trust. Can you bring your enthusiasm and skills to contribute to our goal to improve the psychological care of medically unwell patients across our organisation?
