Job Description
Consultant Chemical Pathologist Applications are invited for a newly created Consultant Chemical Pathologist post based at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, part of the recently formed North West Anglia NHS Trust. The successful applicant will join a Consultant Chemical Pathologist (1WTE), a Consultant Immunologist (0.8WTE), and an enthusiastic and forward thinking laboratory team to deliver a biochemistry and immunology service. This substantive appointment is for a full time Chemical Pathologist (10PAs), and will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England). The appointee will be expected to contribute to the supervision of the day-to-day management of the biochemistry laboratories and support the existing nutrition and lipid services. Duties will include consultant medical cover in hours and out of hours, clinical liaison, reporting duties, and provision of professional direction of the service. In addition, the post holder will be encouraged to pursue sub-speciality interests relevant to this role and in line with their previous experience. The biochemistry laboratories are located in Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The Pathology laboratory in Peterborough City Hospital is fully accredited to ISO 15189 standards and has just successfully completed the annual UKAS surveillance inspection. The laboratory in Hinchingbrooke Hospital has been refurbished and has new equipment. It is working towards ISO 15189 accreditation. Procurement of a shared LIMS is also underway which will improve access to results between the laboratory sites, to give patients and service users a more efficient and cost effective service. North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT) was formed in April 2017 from the previous Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Hinchingbrooke Healthcare NHS Trust. It serves a diverse and fast-growing population of 700,000 people, and employs around 6,000 staff. The three hospital sites are in Peterborough, Huntingdon and Stamford. The service is commissioned from Peterborough and Cambridge CCG, South Lincolnshire CCG and NHS England. Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) is a-state-of-the-art 776 bed hospital built in 2010, classified as a medium-sized DGH. It has a full Emergency department, a medical assessment unit and a thriving cancer service. Applicants for this post should hold the FRCPath or equivalent and is either on, or within six months of entry to, the GMC Specialist Register at the time of interview.
