Job Description

We are looking to recruit an experienced Maintenance technician (Electrical Bias) into our team at University Hospital Southampton Foundation NHS Trust (UHS). ABOUT THE TEAM The role is based at Southampton General Hospital & Princess Anne Maternity Hospital and does not require travel as part of day-to-day duties (static site), however some training opportunities are provided at off-site facilities. The successful candidates will form part of a large multi-disciplinary team of approximately 50 staff across various disciplines. Working hours will be over a 2-week pattern: Week 1: Mon - Fri 0700 - 1500 Week 2: Mon - Fri 1000 - 1800 You will also be required to take part in an on-call system to provide emergency cover out-of hours. Typically oncall shifts are 1-day-in-10: Weekday oncall requires site attendance 1400-2200 and oncall from home 2200-0730 Weekend oncall requires site attendance 0730-1530 (paid as overtime or lieu) and oncall from home 1530-0730 Call outs are paid as overtime or lieu with a minimum payment of 2 hours per call. WHAT YOU'LL DO The role will be split between enabling development & refurbishment projects and assisting day-to-day maintenance of plat and assets. Project related roles include issuing permits to work, undertaking isolations of electrical systems & compiling information on existing services to assist design teams. Day-to-day maintenance activities can include small projects, attending breakdowns, supervising maintenance staff during shutdowns & updating existing maintenance records to include details of new assets installed during development & refurbishment projects. The role will include working with the following systems: - Air handling units & ventilation plant - Low voltage distribution systems - Back-up power systems (Generators/UPS) - Nurse-call systems - Final distribution circuits - 415v circuits - Lighting circuits - BMS & controls Due to the specialised nature of healthcare engineering, the electrical systems found in healthcare have additional requirements over those found in commercial premises - experience of healthcare engineering is desirable however in no way essential as training on the specifics of healthcare engineering will be given to the successful applicant. Typical Duties Include: - Issuing and closing of permits to work for contractors; particularly hot works permits - Working with contractors to deliver new works, routine maintenance & repairs - Undertaking isolation of mechanical systems to enable maintenance & alteration works - Providing technical support to workshop staff & projects team - Identification of safety & security hazards on contracting sites - Liaison with project managers on technical, safety & security matters The role will include comprehensive training opportunities in various specialities applicable to healthcare engineering including vocational and developmental training.
