Planning Services Manager - Castle Point Borough Council Salary: £50,209 - £54,280 per annum (depending on experience) Permanent position Hays is delighted to be working in partnership with Castle Point Borough Council to recruit a Planning Services Manager. Castle Point Borough Council is located in South Essex, between Basildon and Southend-on-Sea. This is a critical post for the council at a time when it is preparing the local plan for examination, playing a key role in future growth and investment in south Essex and is also in a period of accelerated housing delivery. Reporting to the Head of Place and Policy, this role will be responsible for managing the development management, planning enforcement and building control teams, including a strategic sites delivery team, which the post will oversee, provide support and ensure that PPA commitments are fulfilled. The role holder will liaise closely with the Planning Policy team in the development of policies and supplementary planning guidance, and provide some management support. With an excellent wider corporate team in place, and already supportive and highly competent planning and building control teams to immediately manage, this appointment is key to the continued development of the Development Management and Building Control functions including effective supervision of the Development Management Committee with modernisation of processes and behaviours and delivery of the draft Local Plan and associated infrastructure. This role will help drive forward the already high standards of the teams, ensuring quality and sustainable development, defending protected areas and ensuring the teams are fully resourced for the planned growth. Critical to this will be relationships with agents, the public perception of the service and members. The successful applicant will be a highly experienced MRTPI qualified planner with experience of managing people and budgets. You should have a minimum of 4 years' experience within Development Control and should possess in-depth knowledge of development management, planning enforcement and an understanding of building control. Previous experience of master planning and delivering strategic housing sites is highly beneficial.
