Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our specialist paediatric team to work within Southampton Children's Hospital which is part of University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We are able to offer a Band 6 permanent role working 2 days per week (15 hours) within the Paediatric Allergy Service and Burseldon House, a paediatric, psychiatric unit at Southampton General Hospital. ABOUT THE TEAM We are a friendly team of 22 paediatric dietitians and work in both the acute and outpatient settings, working alongside our individual MDT's. The Department of Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy employs approximately 100 staff including Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Nutrition Nurse Specialists, Assistants and Administration staff working across acute and community services and provide training for student dietitians on B and C placements. We have clinical experts working across the range of specialities who take a proactive and imaginative approach to delivering a patient and family centred service. CPD opportunities are well supported through a robust appraisal process with staff encouraged through a supportive framework to submit work for publication or presentation. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team within a team of highly specialist allergy dietitians based at Southampton Children's Hospital. The caseload will be mainly outpatient based but experience of working with patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting is desirable. Paediatric dietitians are at the heart of the allergy service playing an active role in their continued development. This role is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of managing the nutritional and dietetic challenges of paediatric patients with food allergy. You will be working 1 day a week in this service, preferably on a Tuesday. You will also provide dietetic advice and support to patients with feeding and behavioural problems in Bursledon House, as part of the MDT (1 day per week). Dietetic support has previously been provided by one post holder, but due to changes in the needs of the service, the service provision has been divided into two separate specialities and you will be working alongside the paediatric gastroenterology service including the specialist paediatric gastroenterology dietitians. This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in supporting children with some complex feeding and behavioural difficulties alongside an extremely specialist and knowledgeable multidisciplinary team.
