Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent 8a Clinical Psychologist within the Department of Psychological Services and Research based in Dumfries split between in-patient and community services. Post is full-time but consideration will be given to part-time. You will be mostly based within Midpark Hospital, a modern, purpose-built Psychiatric Hospital in Dumfries which opened in 2012 and serves the whole of NHS Dumfries & Galloway. Working alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist within multi-disciplinary teams who are receptive to psychological models, you will and support the development of psychologically informed models of care and be involved in on-going improvement projects with the aim of improving access to psychological care for adult in-patients presenting with psychiatric and emotional needs. You will also be involved in supervising staff, facilitating their therapeutic skills and enhancing their own well-being in what can be, at times, a challenging environment. You will also have the opportunity to balance your work with some allocated time to delivering psychological assessments and interventions within our community-based Adult Mental Health Service. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and energetic HCPC registered Clinical Psychologists who want to play a key role in this service. We would welcome newly qualified candidates applying for this post and you will be supported to develop your skills in supervision and we will offer training in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions for people presenting with complex and/or severe and enduring mental health difficulties. Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful area of the country, offering spectacular countryside and outdoors activities across a large geographical area from Stranraer in the west to Langholm in the east. The population of approximately 150,000 is spread across rural locations, small and large towns. It is an affordable place to live, with excellent educational services including Dumfries campuses of the University of the West of Scotland and Glasgow University. A newly built state of the art regional hospital opened in December 2017. Dumfries is linked by rail to Glasgow (2 hours) and via Lockerbie to Edinburgh (1 hour) and Glasgow (1 hour) and is 40 minutes drive from Carlisle. Our department is a welcoming, inclusive one with friendly and approachable staff, working in all major specialties. Health professionals working in Dumfries and Galloway NHS speak positively about the opportunity to make connections with clinicians across services and to feel part of a wider community. We have strong links with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling Universities and take trainees from both Clinical Psychology and Masters courses. We also provide placements and supervision for CBT Therapists. The post has dedicated CPD and supervision time.
