Make a difference today! Visit your local care home and brighten up our members day Here at Deafblind UK our goal is to assist people with combined sight and hearing loss to live the lives they want. Our members are some of the most isolated and lonely people in society and we want to do all we can to change this. Our team of amazing volunteers make our goal possible! Many of our members live in residential care homes where their care needs are being met by wonderful busy staff. However, due to the strain on residential and supported accommodation the staff on occasions simply do not have the time to hold stimulating conversations or offer emotional support. This leaves our members in a very isolated and vulnerable position, especially when they receive few or no visitors. How can you help? We are looking for chatty, friendly, approachable and confident individuals to offer an hour or more a week to go and have a chat to our members who live in a local care home. You could be chatting about similar interests or learning about each others lives. Whatever the conversation you'll be making a positive difference to our member's life. Something as simple as a chat for an hour could brighten up our members' week! You don't need experience to become one of our chatty care home volunteers simply a kind heart, be comfortable engaging with our members, able to instigate conversations and commit to weekly or monthly visits with our members. You will need to undergo a DBS Check before commencing volunteering activities. What will you get out of it? Qualities and Skills we are looking for: * We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Volunteers * Good communication skills, particularly with regard to conversational skills * To be reliable and have a genuine interest to make a difference in lives of deafblind people * Patience and a warm and friendly attitude What will we ask for in return? A regular commitment of one weekly visit - usually 1-3 hours We will need to undertake two references and a DBS check before this role can start You will need to be over the age of 18 years to apply for this role Interested?
