Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic physiotherapy technical instructor (Band 3) to join the major trauma physiotherapy service at BSUH NHS Trust. The RSCH hosts the regional Major Trauma Centre for the South East coast, and delivers key critical services 24 hours a day for patients who are severely injured from across the region. This includes the area extending from Chichester in West Sussex, towards Hastings and parts of Kent in the East, and up to Redhill in the North. The major trauma physiotherapy team provides acute care and rehabilitation to patients transferred directly from: the scene of the accident, local Trauma units, A&E Departments across the region and for those repatriated back to the region from other parts of the UK and worldwide. We also prepare patients for transfer to ongoing rehabilitation either into the community, or to specialist rehabilitation centres. You should have experience working within healthcare and, or rehabilitation, be enthusiastic and keen to work with the physiotherapy team to provide an excellent service. You will need to have good communication and organisational skills and be an excellent team worker. The successful candidate will be a key member of the physiotherapy team and will work under supervision and guidance of trained physiotherapists to: provide direct intervention (both one to one and group sessions); assist with administrative tasks and information gathering (including data collection and inputting); and to promote best quality patient care throughout the in-patient admission at RSCH. Full training will be provided to ensure you are supported and a competency framework will be used to ensure you have the appropriate skills to assist with physiotherapy treatments, and to carry a small caseload of patients where mobilisation and exercise plans need to be completed. Applicants need to be flexible, reliable, demonstrate confidence in dealing with the public and it would be an advantage to have good IT skills. We offer support, supervision, in house training and the opportunity to work within a dedicated and highly skilled therapy and multi-disciplinary team. You will also be required to work weekends as part of a rostered 7 day service. Depending on your experience, you may initially be employed as a physiotherapy assistant (Band 2), and upgraded to a Technical Instructor 3 once trained and assessed as competent. An NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support, Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification would be preferred.
