Job Description

An opportunity has become available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our vibrant and highly experienced multi-disciplinary team at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage. Cygnet Hospital Stevenage offers a range of secure mental health services for men and women in a purpose-built therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery. A range of therapies supports the care pathway towards independent living. We offer a therapeutic environment for up to 86 patients, which is split into 6 wards where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes. We provide two separate care pathways for men and women from locked acute admissions services to low secure through to medium secure services. As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will have clinical responsibility for patients and their treatment plans on a medium secure female ward and part of a low secure male ward. This role will lead on risk management and embedding clinical governance within the hospital. There is a requirement to participate in ward rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA's), Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT's) ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned. The successful candidate will become part of an established onsite team comprising of Specialty Doctors, Consultant Psychiatrists, a Medical Director, Allied Health Professionals, Psychologists, Management, Nursing Staff and Healthcare Support Workers. Our Consultant Psychiatrists also need to have... * GMC and specialist registration (CCT/CESR) in Forensic Psychiatry * Section 12 Approval and AC Status * Experience of working within an adult mental health / forensic setting * Royal College of Psychiatrists membership or equivalent * Excellent verbal / written communication skills to consult with patients / staff members effectively and document clear and comprehensive medical notes * Have a clear understanding of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice * An MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification * Experience in making clinical decisions along with knowledge of risk assessment and management principles * Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development) Why Cygnet?
