We are looking for a Pack Test Research Scientist to join our Packaging Sciences Team in Wantage, Oxfordshire. You will lead a programme of work to evaluate the performance of materials used to manufacture cans. Testing performance by means of packing with model products and examining after storage. Communicating results to project leaders and business personnel with recommendations. As a key member of the team, you will be involved in the following areas: Plan and Conduct Pack Performance Tests including , preparing food and beverage products to standard recipes and pack cans (filling, seaming and cooking) to industry standards, opening & preparing cans for examination. Evaluate Container, Coating and Product Performance including , recording critical can performance indicators accurately, visually examine samples noting features of interest and relate observations to potential failure modes and preparing results in report format. In addition to the above you will provide leadership on more advanced techniques such as microscopy, to investigate potential issues and you will also review reports of junior team members. You will also act as laboratory warden and manage all EHS and training on equipment and activities in designated areas of responsibility. In order to succeed in this role, you will be educated to degree level in a science subject or will have several years' relevant experience in a similar technical support role. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a busy laboratory or manufacturing environment and will be someone who enjoys a balance of practical work, job management and reporting. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with previous experience writing reports on a regular basis and liaising with different stakeholders. You will have the ability to manage and plan multiple work requests, with meticulous attention to detail and able to learn and apply new techniques quickly and effectively. Previous experience of metal packaging technology (food/beverage cans or metal vacuum closures) food or beverage filling and processing would be highly desirable for this role along with experience in one or more relevant investigation techniques.
