We are seeking a Sr. Hardware Development Engineer. In this role you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative equipment. You will have a hands-on role designing, engineering and exploring prototype and test solutions for new innovations that deliver an exceptional customer and pack associate experiences. You will continually find new and better ways to solve complex problems within constrained environments. You will demonstrate cross-functional expertise to accomplish your goals. You will play a role in defining the approaches and solutions being developed by the entire team. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. This is a developing Amazon team and this is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a game-changing initiative. While you'll be able to use existing Amazon systems when possible, you'll be working on hard challenging problems that most likely have no off-the-shelf solutions within Amazon, and most likely haven't been solved anywhere else in the world to the requirements we need. You should be comfortable building prototypes, challenging assumptions, performing design and architectural reviews, and thinking of creative ways to tackle problems. You'll work on a team and build systems from the ground-up! You are right, a lot. You own a complex project and you work very efficiently and routinely deliver the right things, leading overall end-to-end equipment technology development to move through ideation, conceptual design, detail design, testing and on-site implementation. Your technical knowledge is broad and/or deep. Your focus is not restricted to your primary discipline but spans multiple domains. You have deep hands-on expertise with many disparate technologies. You have proven experience to develop and test mechanical - robotics - logistics - packing equipment working with equipment suppliers, laboratories and manufacturing plants You are able to analyze issues, even if they are not in your primary domain. You can identify and work closely with the appropriate domain experts to resolve them. Other engineers in your department regard you as an expert in one or more technical areas and are still able to lead and influence cross-functional teams of technology oriented Engineers and Engineering Contractors You show good judgement making technical trade-offs between your group's short term and long term business needs, and the needs of the company as a whole. You Communicate project status, drive and elevate decision making and help requests. Conduct multiple weekly standing meetings with internal teams and vendors to plan and track deliverables. You lead vendor meetings for critical component selection. You are able to extract critical information from marketing documents and dive-deep to collect relevant data. You make data-driven decisions to converge onto one of these offerings. You actively mentor others, improving their skills, their knowledge of our systems, and their ability to get things done. You participate in the hiring process for other Hardware Dev Engineer roles. Ability to understand Operational processes and hands-on experience
