We design, manage and improve IT services to make sure colleagues in Phoenix and Standard Life Aberdeen get the most out of their IT, so they can get on with doing their own jobs and helping customers. Our Application Consultancy team are a small group of technical SMEs who strive to continually optimise the supportability of our applications. They have specialist knowledge of how both our mainframe and off-mainframe applications interact with our infrastructure to deliver the critical IT Services our customers and colleagues rely on. As a member of the team you'll be focussing on reducing the risk to production service by advising on the strategic direction for applications, offering consultancy to projects, assisting with the resolution of complex/critical incidents, progressing proactive service improvements and managing application tooling strategy and implementation. We're looking for someone with knowledge of mainframe and off-mainframe applications and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Architecture Advise on the strategic direction for applications Advise on application architectures, providing both development and support experience Review and approve Solution Architecture documents Protect service by ensuring that the operational requirements are met and that solutions are robust, supportable and maintainable. Initiate and partake in Proof of Concepts (PoCs) looking at new approaches and/or technologies Project Consultancy Technical consultancy to development projects across Software Engineering, ITSO and ISR Technical consultancy to strategic/currency projects (e.g. DB2 Upgrade, SOI Futures, Mainframe Replacement, TTP Phase 3) Service Management Point of escalation for the ITSO AS technical tower leads Technical consultancy to assist with complex / service impacting incidents Proactive service improvements - analysing trends in application performance and identifying improvement opportunities Ad hoc queries - using a breadth of knowledge across technical platforms to involve the right people at the right time Tooling Input into the application tooling strategy Investigate new application tooling Make best use of existing tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Splunk, Compuware toolset, PAM, etc.) and advocate best practice Skills/experience Essential Strong technical skills, preferably across multiple platforms used in h-SLAL Strong analytical skills Excellent communication skills, verbal and written Strong relationship management, communication and influencing skills Highly organised, disciplined, motivated and self-sufficient Desirable ITIL Certification Top competencies Analytical Skills Use of a variety of diagnostic techniques to understand a situation/ issue/problem by breaking it down and tracing the root cause/underlying implications in a methodical step-by-step way.
