Stephenson Harwood is a law firm with 1100+ people worldwide, including more than 180 partners. Our headquarters are in London, with 10 offices across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to join our Risk and Compliance team The Business Acceptance team consists of the Head of Business Acceptance, a Senior Compliance Officer and six Compliance Officers based in the firm's London office. The London team works closely with the Compliance team in Hong Kong, which consists of a Senior Compliance Officer and three Compliance Officers. Main responsibilities The role primarily involves the day-to-day management of the compliance and file opening workflow handled by the Business Acceptance team. In practice, this will involve: * Acting as the first point of escalation for queries from team members on how to approach issues that have arisen on tasks they are dealing with. * Ensuring that turnaround times on individual tasks are met by the team. * Ensuring that any issues, technical or otherwise, which affect the general file opening workflow are identified and quickly resolved. The role will also include handling a share of the team's workload, which generally involves: * Analysing conflict search results to identify potential regulatory and/or commercial conflicts and facilitating the resolution of these, utilising Intapp Open software. * Managing incoming requests for new client and new matter openings. * Researching new clients for CDD purposes and assisting fee-earners in obtaining the information and documentation required for this purpose. * Implementing and maintaining information barriers * Conducting sanctions screening. * Working closely with other business support functions, including IT and Accounts. In addition to the daily compliance and file opening workflow, the successful candidate will be expected to: * Provide a second point of contact, in addition to the Head of Business Acceptance, to the business on complex compliance related queries. * Assist with compliance driven policy drafting. * Jointly oversee the Business Acceptance training programme provided to all international offices. * Assist with the project management of software upgrades linked to the Business Acceptance team, such as the upgrade of Intapp Open. Attributes / skills required * A strong understanding of AML and conflicts rules applicable in the UK and other jurisdictions in which the firm operates. * Confidence in presenting to senior stakeholders within the business. * Strong research skills and familiarity with widely used data providers such as Bureau van Dijk/Orbis, Companies House and Accuity. * Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. * Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively. * A desire to build on existing knowledge and adapt to changes in processes and procedures quickly. * Undergraduate degree is required. * Experience of using Intapp Open software is desirable. * Proven experience in an established compliance team within a law firm.
