Permanent, London with flexibility, Competitive salary plus excellent benefits Closing date: Sunday 14th June The Opportunity Here at EDF we are seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to come and join our dynamic, fast-paced Technical Accounting team. The Senior Technical Accountant will lead contact for technical accounting topics requested by business units across EDF, ensuring accounting policies are appropriate for the business, consistently applied and in compliance with relevant IFRS and Group policies. Each business unit within EDF has a local finance team, which should have sufficient technical knowledge to understand and implement EDF's accounting policies. These teams should also be equipped to address straightforward technical accounting issues. The Technical Accounting team within Corporate Finance provides an oversight function for these local activities - providing guidance and ensuring consistency with EDF and EDF Group's accounting policies. The Technical Accounting team provides the overarching EDF accounting policies for the business and for complex technical accounting issues the team are likely to provide more significant guidance and leadership. Day to day you will: * Be empowered to take decisions necessary to the performance of the job purpose and key accountability areas of this role. Notwithstanding this, decisions regarding accounting policy changes and interpretation and particularly those in judgemental areas are subject to approval by the Technical Accounting Manager. * Be recognised as a point of reference, a company expert and trusted business partner in providing specialist technical accounting support to key stakeholders, including the various finance teams of EDF Energy. * Identify and deliver improvements in the IFRS 9 process, hedge accounting system (Prodsys) and models as well as maintain the integrity of IFRS 9 IT solutions, underpinning the completeness and accuracy of the accounting records. * Liaise with commercial teams in the review of complex commercial contracts, using specialist judgement to assess impacts under IFRS 9, meeting external audit requirements as well as produce IFRS 9 disclosures for consolidated financial statements and individual financial statements. * Contribute to the development and maintenance of up to date accounting policies, procedures and systems for relevant accounting and reporting, ensuring accurate management information as well as conduct and support discussions within the business to ascertain implication of proposed accounting treatments. The Skills Essential * Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience of applying IFRS 9 (including hedge accounting) in a business context. * An extensive understanding of the commercial and financial reporting implications of accounting under IFRS 9. * An in-depth understanding of IFRS with experience of confident application of the standards to workplace scenarios. * Experience of liaising with auditors to conclude financial instrument topics. * Proficient Microsoft office skills and IT skills, particularly large Excel model spreadsheets. * Act with complete integrity and confidentiality. Desirable * An in-depth understanding of the Energy sector. * Knowledge and understanding of SAP BW and large group consolidations.
