Job Description Team/Function Overview Compliance Technology is building a sophisticated next generation surveillance solution on top of a distributed data platform. The Belfast team is the global centre for the creation of feature-based surveillance algorithms using cutting edge technologies and techniques. The volume and variety of data involved in these surveillances and the complexity of the algorithms results in one of most challenging and appropriate use cases for big data technologies. Role / Position Overview To aid in the growth of the team we are looking to bring in a senior Java engineer to help to build next generation surveillances using cutting edge behavioral-based techniques. This is a significant opportunity for an experienced developer or engineer with experience in modern data platforms to move into a role working with a variety of development teams, including close collaboration with an on-site data science team. Key Responsibilities: + Assisting with the design and build of new Surveillance components using a variety of cutting edge technologies + Ensuring high quality software development, with complete documentation and traceability + Promoting unit/functional testing and code inspection processes + Working with business partners and BA's to understand requirements + Working with data scientists to understand and interpret complex datasets + Working with project managers and support teams to meet delivery targets + Mentoring and coaching more junior members of the development team + Assisting with the provision of task breakdown and estimates + Quickly becoming knowledgeable in Capital Markets, Trading, and Fraud Detection. Development Value: + Hands-on design and development experience on a production implementation of Hadoop with massive data volumes + Opportunities to demonstrate leadership ability as you mentor and guide junior team members + Potential to contribute to projects involving complex feature-based data algorithms + Exposure to data science and surveillance functions in a dynamic and challenging industry with regular close collaboration with our surveillance portfolio clients Criteria/Qualifications Knowledge/Experience: + Confident engineer with an authoritative knowledge of Java or other OO language + Comfortable working with large data volumes and be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of logical data structures and analysis techniques + Capable of assisting with the design of solutions and mentoring other developers within the same team + Experienced with Linux platform + A confident SQL developer + Experienced with automated build and test processes + Able to demonstrate an expertise in identifying and resolving data quality issues - in data sets at rest and in flight + Familiar with the financial services industry and/or regulatory environments Skills: + Java + Hadoop + Hive + Spark + Python + SQL + Linux + Continuous Integration + Containerization Qualifications: A strong degree in any mathematical subject including physics, mathematics, engineering or computer science Exceptional candidates who do not meet these criteria may be considered for the role provided they have the necessary skills and experience.
