Our Geotechnics, GIS and Geospatial team is involved in some of the UK's most high profile, complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UK's and indeed the world's most prestigious and challenging projects. Our current client portfolio includes the Highways England, Transport for London, Local Authorities, the Environment Agency, Canal & Rivers Trust, Water Companies, Network Rail and selected Civil Engineering Contractors for whom we undertake the planning, design and supervision of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology schemes. These include, managed motorways, harbours, ports, tunnels, water treatment plants, reservoirs, rail electrification, rail improvements, station upgrades and structures across a wide range of geological conditions and UK and European locations. Overview of Role: We are now looking to recruit a Technical Director for our Glasgow office who has both technical and managerial experience in the sphere of ground engineering and design to join our growing Geotechnics, GIS and Geospatial business predominately working within our Water, Highways, Aviation and Rail sectors, but also working on a wide portfolio of schemes throughout the UK. Reporting to the Business Director you will be accountable for leading, managing and developing the team in Glasgow to deliver projects locally and nationally. The role will involve building relationships with clients, controlling technical and commercial aspects of projects together with assisting and participating in developing team members to their full potential. Responsibilities * Helping define and implement the company's strategy and vision and the function's business and marketing plan * Providing technical direction to the discipline team, leading by example to achieve Sector/ Discipline goals and championing a quality, innovative, client-focused and entrepreneurial culture * Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors and sub-consultants, quality assurance, health & safety and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications * Directing and working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design * Providing both leadership and technical support and advice to project team members * Managing the production of analysis and design and ensuring compliance in the components of the project for which you have responsibility, including drawings, reports, specifications and studies * Identifying opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components * Gaining a good understanding of the background of the client's business and industry to facilitate building effective and enduring relationships and consolidating both company and personal credibility in the industry * Responsible for all commercial aspects (contract, invoicing, debt management, client management etc) relating to projects for which you have responsibility to ensure a successful outcome. * Liaising with the Project Director or Manager and the client to keep informed of all developments associated with the project * Taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential * Communicating and directing team members to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with, sector/discipline business plans * Being familiar, compliant and able to undertake duties under the relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awaren
