AstraZeneca's Control/Technical Support Engineer Apprenticeship programme is designed to create the control and automation engineers of the future. Engineering apprentices play a hugely important role at AstraZeneca, solving challenges that arise from some of the most advanced equipment in the industry. The Control/Technical Support Engineers primarily assist the smooth running of manufacturing in activities such as site maintenance and improvements. They will work closely with other production roles in a fast-paced and cost-conscious manufacturing environment, where complex problem solving is key. Under supervision the apprentice will develop a solid grasp of the core mechatronics engineering skills. These skills will not only prepare the apprentice for the workplace in demonstrating that they have the required manual dexterity to do their role, but their competencies are transferable and can be built upon over time. The skills developed are: + Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements + Using and interpreting a range of engineering data sources and supporting documentation + Understanding key performance indicators and utilising lean techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness + Supporting installation, testing and commissioning of a wide range of equipment as needed + Carrying out complex fault diagnosis and repair on high technology engineered systems + Maintaining mechanical, fluid and pneumatic power equipment + Maintaining electrical, electronic and process control equipment + Minimising machinery downtime by carrying out preventative planned maintenance + Confirmation testing and subsequent smooth hand over of equipment & plan + maintenance and manufacturing principles and their applications in industry + investigation and interrogation skills for software applications. In addition to the valuable working experience you will have the opportunity to study in blocks towards professional qualifications, including a HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Tameside College followed by BEng in Controls & Automation at the University of Salford, run by Siemens SITRAIN devision. Essential skills/capabilities required: + Good communication skills + Good team working skills + High organisation skills and confidence to work independently + Logical thinking to be able to apply processes + The ability to apply a rational approach to problem solving; making judgments based on sound reasoning, approaching problems in a logical manner + Concerns for standards + High numeracy and literacy skills + Computer literacy + The ability to learn + Self-motivation + Initiative Entry Requirements: + Will possess a minimum of 5 GCSE's at Grade 4or above, including Mathematics, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject, as well as A Levels at grade 4 or above in both a Mathematical based subject and a Science, Technology, Engineering or additional Mathematics related subject, or 90+ credits in an Engineering BTEC at level 3.
