Applications are invited for the position of Post CCT Fellow in Critical Care / FICE/ Special Interests ABOUT THE TEAM & WHAT YOU'LL DO This post is intended for doctors experienced in ICM and acute care, able to work on an airway rota, who wish to develop an interest in a number of allied areas. These can include 1.Palliative Care; the opportunity to work with the first consultant led palliative care team embedded on an ICU, participate and develop research themes, attend the local hospice and our ICU follow up clinic. 2.FICE; the opportunity to gain significant U/S experience and recognised qualifications. There is the opportunity to extend practice into TOE. 3.Research; there is a very active research group with two Professors within our unit, with a wide range of on-going projects. These options are not exhaustive, as there are also other opportunities such as clinical simulation and peri-operative medicine. It is possible to design a fellowship year to match individual goals. These opportunities would be delivered during normal working hours. Special Interest (60%) 1.Palliative Care Join weekly palliative care ward rounds on ICM with palliative care consultant, ICM consultant with palliative care interest and duty ICM consultant. Attend acute palliative care ward rounds in the wider hospital, palliative care MDTs, palliative care in the community, and engage with the post ICU follow up clinic. There will be the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects around these topics * FICE / POCUS The successful applicant would have a named FICE mentor, with access to ICM and cardiology trainers to enable full FICE accreditation. There will be the opportunity to develop some TOE experience during this post, as well as Point of Care U/S. * Research The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to an active research programme (including a number of National Portfolio trials, A2B,TOXYC, BLING III, GAP, SARIPOC) within the critical care department, gain experience in recruiting for trials, working through ethics applications etc. This will be individually supported by one of the 4 consultants actively involved in clinical research. ICM; (40%) Predominately blocks of nights on call and weekend work. This would equate to 16-18 shifts per 12 week block. The post will join an established team of 15 Consultants who provide a full range of services to a large population across the South Coast. The Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital provides Critical Care services for a wide range of specialities including General Surgery, General Medicine, the Major Trauma Centre, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, and Bone Marrow Transplant. The post will provide the opportunity to continue developing your skills in all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine in a large multidisciplinary unit supporting a large, expanding teaching hospital ICU admitting approximately 1800 patients per year. The post holder will be expected to work closely with their colleagues and the Specialist Registrars to provide cover across the unit and help deliver appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:- * To support the provision of a first class clinical service * To provide effective middle grade leadership to the staff working on the unit * To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies * To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans * To support the clinical decision making of medical and nursing staff on the unit * To lead, in conjunction with the Consultant workforce, the education programme for junior doctors WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU As one of the largest acute teaching Trust's in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
