Senior Operations Technician - Conjugates (PG22) About Ortho, Pencoed: Ortho Clinical Diagnostics has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 500 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to a global customer base. Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories. In addition to the continued support our growing scientific community provide to our existing products, we are also harnessing our Research & Development capabilities for the creation of novel new content to expand our immunoassay menu. We are proud to be a global hub for critical manufacturing lines, and we have recently expanded our capabilities with three new state-of-the-art manufacturing lines to produce a comprehensive suite of immunohematology products for blood typing and crossmatching of blood donor units. On site we have a range of functions operating globally & locally. All our employees are working towards one common goal, to help save and improve lives through diagnostics. You're new role As a Senior Operations Team within our Conjugates area of the business, you will join the team on a 7-Day Fortnight Shift Pattern. In this role your primary responsibility will be to carry out the routine conjugation and purification of a large range of Conjugate Concentrate products. What you'll be doing: * Carry out manufacturing operations in accordance with all regulations and laws governing business and quality operations (cGMP, GLP, ISO etc.) identifying and recording anomalous observations. Empowered to halt processes following anomalous observations. * Operate the AKTA systems including manual fraction collection where needed. * Responsible for a wide range of Chromatography columns including routine maintenance, efficiency testing and column packing. * Prepare SOP's, WKI's and training documents for procedures, ensuring they are up to date. * Participate in the set-up of new production procedures and documentation for new Conjugate Concentrates. * On occasion, deputise for more senior members of the team. * Responsible for own adherence to the training plan, train new members of the team when required. * Responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety & Environmental compliance. * Maintain control charts for trend analysis for each Conjugate using Prodmon. * Carry out routine In-Process tests, interpret results and make recommendations for appropriate action. * Maintain the lab environment, including cleaning and micro monitoring. * Ensure maintenance of production equipment is carried out to agreed schedules. Supervise contract maintenance staff and sign off completed maintenance records. * Participate in quality or cost improvement initiatives and in associated implementation teams. * Support the annual appraisal system within the unit. * Adherence to the manufacturing plan, including the pooling of Conjugate Concentrates and scheduling of new batches. What you'll need to succeed: * 2 - 5 years relevant operational experience obtained within Ortho. * 5 x GCSE levels including Chemistry and Math's OR 2-5 years relevant operational experience. * Experience of laboratory work is essential. * Demonstrable experience of using pipettes and formulating basic solutions is essential. * Familiar, and competent in the use of MS Office (Excel) * Experience of Unicorn Software is highly desirable. * Experience of AKTA purification systems if highly desirable. * Ability to work as part of a team. * Knowledge of Section's activities, and it's links with other departments. * Basic understanding of Ortho's manufacturing policy and standards. * Knowledge of Departmental organization and activities. * The ability to work a shift pattern (7 Day Fortnight) #LI-RP1 * Equal Opportunity Ortho Clinical Diagnostics
